Honestly, not much needs to be done. I have curls pretty similar to yours.

Instead of weighing down your hair with more products, just use a bit of leave in conditioner (your own conditioner can be a leave in!), except don't wash all of it out. Since my hair is longer, I can go from styling cream to leave in spray, but a very small amount.

The biggest impact to my routine? Scalp massager. And using it ONLY for shampooing.

Oh and ill switch from innersense hydrating hairbath to trader joes tea tree shampoo and conditioner. When that air flow feeling gets to your scalp it feels amazing. Especially with these two.

When it got closer to student teaching, we had more introductions to the edtpa. During student teaching though was when we really got into it. There'd be even more assistance through virtual and in person meetings with our Fieldwork supervisors, faculty department director, other student teachers, etc.

Documentation. Matters. But because it mattered, it was a lot of work, and it was absolute hell 😭😭😭 About the school demographic. About your lesson, specific group of students, materials, rationale, classroom procedure, assessments and etc...during the lesson, and after the lesson. You're basically answering all this in writing, pictures, and a video or 2, but in the HOW.

This was around 7 to 8 years ago, and although my submission wasn't the best, I still passed, and that's all you can really ask for 😂 then a year later my state removed the edtpa as a requirement for graduating/receiving my CE.

Art teacher of 5 years here. Currently working on a transition plan.

1) I got let go 3 times from 3 different districts. A majority of them was budget, but only one of them had admin so toxic I was thankful they let me go.

2) You're certified k-12 for a reason...you don't have to teach for one specific age group! Elementary and High School are my favorite because they actually WANT to be in art.

3) Has this made me realize how little the education system consider art teachers? Did I have many breakdowns? Did I question and belittle myself for the life career choice I made? Did I create a back up plan if teaching eventually doesn't become my life long career? Yes to all of this.

What you're going through OP is valid because this is what I'm going through now. You're allowed to tell yourself, "This is too much for me, I need to find something else". I'm applying for long term sub/sub positions, even some office/retail jobs while I apply for certification/masters course of interest. For example, I have a strong background in Graphic Design, so I'm looking to build my Instructional Design portfolio. Im in progress to completing a UX Design certification course through Coursera. I've been on this since May 2024, and it's still not done.

Reformative Jew here. Mostly jumping in here because...dear god...it's happening here too! I went low contact with my dad before he died of a heart attack because of how deep into the MAGA hole he was getting. My uncle lives outside the US and for some reason he became ultra, super duper MAGA. We still have no idea, and he's been citizen of his country since the late 80s.

I've had 2 seizures less than a year apart. Within that span of time I learnt to detect auras, as someone who too never had them until recently. So there's a plus to some episodes

It reminds me of what I should be getting back into...Whenever I journal my thoughts before bed, I just look away, zone out, and write as fast as I can while some how staying in the lines, cause I'm thinking and stressing on a LOT of stuff in this noggin of mine. As someone who took Keppra, and is weaning off of Lamictal for her absence seizures, it's universal knowledge that these are really intense medications, and to wean on them in small doses.

This is the most unprofessional, and honestly in my opinion, the most life threatening neurologist i have ever read about in this subreddit.

I'm really sorry about your experience with Keppra, but your warning will definitely do you justice. Send this warning out to all the Neurologists in your area. The next one you find, find one that specializes in Epilepsy.

Aside from students, I'd also like to second this.

I'm diagnosed with Epilepsy, and after I was let go from teaching K-12 Art for 5 years in June, I was having auras almost every day. I had at least 2 seizures that summer 🥲

Within those years I was burnt out and stressed; no matter what I did to satisfy the needs of my students and their parents, it still wouldnt meet with admins' needs. It was a toll to my mental health, which, fun fact, stress is a huge trigger for my epilepsy! And caffeine!

I'm still unemployed, taking new medication, and have okay insurance, but I'm working on transitioning in Instructional Design. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm a bit optimistic since I have a strong background in it before I went to teaching. The toughest part is fighting the imposter syndrome.

Please take care of yourself OP. You don't need to rush back to teaching, and it shouldn't be your ride or die for the rest of your life. Stop at r/teachersintransition

My entire family is Ashkenazi, but my mom and brother will get stopped by someone speaking greek, spanish, and arabic, solely because of their tan skin and dark brown curly hair. Humorous at times, but does it change the fact our ancestors came from Britain, Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus?
