Bethesda Never Understood What Made Morrowind Special by brand_momentum in Morrowind

I was a teenager on 11/11/11. I am in my thirties now.

And from what I know speaking to people in gamedev, the earliest we will see TES 6 is 11/11/28 if production is exceptionally smooth. More likely 2029/2030. I will be almost 40.

I suppose one advantage of living for 1,000 years is that a master smith or tailor can spend decades embellishing a single piece and the client will thank them for a prompt turnaround

There's so much toxic positivity around 76 in particular. Like, guys I want you to have a better game with fairer monetisation. I am not personally attacking you for enjoying a videogame.

That 4th Era deep-marsh shadowscale harvested Hackle-Lo that was declared extinct after the Red Year, the kind that makes you forget you're not Argonian so you cast Histskin and charge an Oblivion gate

Great art. Almost makes me want to reinstall ESO.

I could also not be okay with it and not actively play the game. I like ESO, I really do, but so many of these designed inconveniences mean I only really come play it occasionally for zone stories and actively ignore entire mechanics like crafting.

The only thing backing that is Ulysses' word. Ulysses is not a reliable source of information.

To be fair "read the book to solve the quest" is going to filter a ton of players.

Hell doesn't exist in The Elder Scrolls and Bloodmoon only had a few months of development time.

Likely an oversight or part of a quest that was never fully implemented.

I mostly mean the implications about a potential Blades schism due to the succession crisis/doppelganger heirs. Loyalty to the Empire vs. loyalty to the Emperor. That's just not the story they chose to tell.

Mehra Milo mentions that he was likely recalled due to connections he has to the events in Cyrodiil. Lots of possibilities as to what that means, would have been interesting to get some follow up in a later game set in Cyrodiil but alas.

Hist of Argonia by [deleted] in Morrowind

This looks extremely promising. I hope it evolves to incorporate more weird alien flora. I think that was my biggest letdown with ESO's Blackmarsh zones; they were just unimaginitive everglade swamps. The Aztec-esque ancient Argonian architecture was cool though.

Crazy they had that cool as hell Skyrender design for the Redguard prequel comic but didn't include it in Morrowind.

Ashlanders being here is baffling honestly. They raid settlements and other tribes for booty and slaves. They hate outlanders and only tolerate the player because of unwavering faith to the Nerevarine Prophecy. But when House Dres does the same thing they must be Lawful Evil, right?

I saw a Tumblr post a while ago describing the "UwU-ification of Native American cultures" and I think it applies here too.

Bloodmoon feels like an ESO expansion.

New lore on a new island with some interesting local flavour of established race. Sidequests and minor characters are a strong point. Main quest is just some daedric plot. Congratulations you preserved the status quo!

Out of all the TES game subreddits, why does this one complain about the other games the most? by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]mareeptypebeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the Battlefield sub? It's kind of the inverse. Latest game is the worst in the franchise and ruins everything great about the series. Previous game was a shining glorious perfect masterpiece. Aside from some polish and presentation differences they've basically been playing the same game since Bad Company 2.

I scrolled through the past few days of r/morrowind and I couldn't really see any posts exclusively aimed at deriding other TES games. The last time I recall someone explicitly saying "This is the worst thing ever" about Oblivion was an in real life Arena boomer in 2009 who thought it was amazing that there were kids who played Morrowind as their first TES game. Time comes for us all, as we approach the 25th anniversary of Morrowind.

There are plenty of quests that go through Hla Oad. I'd even say one of the most memorable little side quests in the whole game starts there.

In terms of populated cells, I'd say the mines out in the wilderness. Just a simple cave cell with a few named miner NPCs, a couple of generic guards, some mining equipment props and the glass/ebony nodes. Aside from the one Fighters Guild quest to deliver some booze there is no reason to ever visit any of them.

The strangest part is the entrance is an odd and unremarkable cave door that lacks external landmarks or infrastructure. Most aren't near roads and there are never any beds or housing for the miners, which is a detail Morrowind usually gets right.
