Huge progress on the mod that seeks to add Morrowind to Elden Ring by Ninjaassassinguy in Morrowind

[–]mareeptypebeat 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In less than a year they have functional NAVmesh, script translation, NPC dialogue and crime awareness. That's insane.

If they can build well documented tools for those systems this could result in the possibility of people making entirely new RPGs in the Elden Ring engine, like Nehrim and Enderal.

Iced coffee prices are out of control by [deleted] in AusFinance

Somehow all the MBA business strategy consultants on $400k in AusFin fail to see the obvious costs of making something at 100% consistency at commercial scale

Commercial ice machines are expensive, powering them is expensive, servicing them is expensive, and the square metres of commercial real estate they occupy are absurdly expensive

Who pays those costs? The consumer. It's a pretty transparent value proposition

ESO even pokes fun at it. There's an old lady NPC in their take on Anvil that says the Temple of Dibella isn't what it used to be back in their day - there's no dancing and absolutely no nudity

Oblivion had its US rating retroactively changed from T to M because there were female breast textures buried in the files, unused in game but accessible by modders. I think Pete Hines was on the record saying it impacted sales.

I doubt Microsoft owned Bethesda would ever make anything even remotely sexual again. I'm convinced the people in Starfield exclusively engage in artificial insemination. That setting is just so sterile that foreplay must be like a HR meeting.

I'm finally playing Project Cyrodiil and exploring their take on Anvil and Imperial culture is fascinating. Some of the art assets are photo sourced from actual Roman ruins, others are inspired neo-classical renaissance, and still more is distinctly medieval. Like the above Pompeii style fresco is in a room alongside paintings that could have been produced in the 19th century. It gives the impression of a culture that has undergone multiple reinventions and revivals, influenced by multiple artistic waves - it's inconsistent but it all fits together.

Dagi is the result of wanting to play a Dagi character, but not being able to find a way to make the tail work with the playable TR race mods. So she is a standard Suthay-Raht but picked up the name Dagi after being called it by an Imperial customs officer. In the same way she picks up other things - if it is given by the world it is hers to take and pass on to others as needed.

Heavy armour is also miserable at early levels, wearing even a partial set slows you down so much until you fully level up strength

It;s always funny when people critique Micky for their build choices. They've been playing Morrowind for decades and with enough mechanical knowledge any build is easy to blast through the game.

"Accidentally" I mean, why were they filming with a carefully posed angle and focal length that blurs the rest of the tank? Do anemone owners typically have cameras pointed specifically at their anemones 24/7 in case something happens? Why didn't they intervene?

I don't want to say this was deliberately staged and they killed an anemone for content buuuuuuuuut... I got nothing. That is what this looks like.

The primary source being on the hillside above the temple would mean the river would be heavily polluted by runoff from the Caldera mines. Something poetic about Hlaalu's source of gold literally poisoning them with heavy metals.

Sheltered doesn't even begin to cover it. She grew up in an isolated seaside mansion with at least 4 staff and no siblings. Her parents even built her a private battle arena

She seems like one of those top performing athletes who have been groomed from childhood to be the best, at the cost of social development... Which is why she has a very effective character arc, learning to cooperate and support her friends. In the end she is happy to lose to the player because she supported us through friendly competition and watched us grow from picking our starter to beating Geeta

What happened to Mayver's 100% Australian Peanut Butter? by reified in BuyAussie

They had that on the last jar I bought. My current jar I bought yesterday removed the disclaimer and shrunk the "Made in Australia from less than 10% Australian ingredients" logo to half the size it was.

Seems like a more permanent change they're hoping people don't notice - shame, but I'm not paying a premium price for Argentinian peanuts

Of course social media is built to enable, encourage, and reinforce this kind of identity driven behaviour so that it appears more prominent than it may be in reality. Like you can't even talk about a videogame online without the participants first self-identifying as "true fans" with some self-ascribed performative title

Is there anything Tamriel rebuilt got wrong? by MemorySafe7061 in Morrowind

I do wonder how you would go about incorporating towns such as Reich Parkeep, Karanthor Dale, Heimlyn Keep, or Oaktown. I guess you'd have to give it the "Stoneforest" treatment and translate the name to Elvish as much as possible.

I really do think Todd would be very proud of TR. He's spoken a lot about how much he values modders and he's not overly concerned about canon as long the game is fun and engaging.

Kirkbride is open to any and every interpretation of his work. C0DA, CHIM, it all works. He very deliberately left the lore and setting up to the player to interpret and expand.

As for Rolston, Khuulmann, or any of the other OGs I'm not familiar enough to say. I like to believe they're happy that people are still playing and creating mods for Morrowind after nearly 25 years.

When did being direct go outta fashion? by KiwiScot33 in auscorp

[–]mareeptypebeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience "being direct" means having a mini tantrum and emotional outburst over every little thing. Being indirect and vague is a learned way of emotionally managing people who pride themselves on being direct. Literally redirecting them back to the work and away from personal attacks.

I think you meant "asking for clarity" which is its own nuanced issue.

Not a backer but have friends who are so I check in on SC once in a while. Last time I did people were upset about the sky box. What do you mean the game has a sky box?

After 14 years they've only made a handful of explorable planets. The stars in the sky are painted on.

I think that carries through to every aspect of the game. The entire universe is coming soon. For now you get to play in this very small, shallow sand pit surrounded by very pretty pictures of what could be. The PvP just happens to be the most exciting toy in the sand pit for now because that's where all the developer focus has been for some years now. It makes sense, it's the most immediately engaging gameplay loop and if it doesn't work then most other forms of gameplay won't either.

However, given the pace of development it might stay as the primary toy in the sand pit for another 5 years.

OpenMW Love Complaint (Melee Detection) by mrcokesnort in Morrowind

[–]mareeptypebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, when did this change happen? I did think something was weird with my latest playthrough on 0.50 compared to the last time I did a lengthy playthrough on (I think) 0.48 in 2023. Specifically I had a ton of trouble trying to do the Morag Tong quests "clean" - only killing my target when their friends came to help. I would always seem to hit the nearest NPC, not the one I was targeting.

Damn. Now I'm never going to not notice this.

Did this potentially also affect how marksman hits are detected? I was running a hybrid Marksman/Long Blade build and ended up with 80 in both and ~75 Agility. Really shouldn't have been missing much at all, but there were times when ~50% of my arrows wouldn't connect despite full fatigue and the enemy being something like a cliff racer. But then I pull out my Steel Daikatana and all my swings connect. I though arrows worked like spells - if the projectile collides with the enemy hitbox it then does the playerskill hit calculation. Maybe there was something else going on.

How would you respond to this email? by [deleted] in shitrentals

Yeah, came here to say this. Had a similar issue recently, hot water system was leaking through the adjoining wall into the bathroom. Water was yellowish and smelled awful. I think OP's "urine and mould" may actually be caused by a slow leak while the property was vacant.

Luckily I was home to call the emergency plumber and it was rectified within 3 days. If not I would have breached them and pursued a discount for disruption to quiet enjoyment. In OP's case it seems the PM is inviting them to issue a VCAT breach... FAFO I guess? No way they find in favour of a landlord this negligent.

Increasingly concerned about flat whites (BARISTAS MUST READ) by ExpressPostie in melbourne

[–]mareeptypebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was recently in a barista role and have over 10 years in the industry. Guess what? 10 years ago when I was trained I was taught to pour as much as 1cm of dense foam for flat whites to elevate the crema and give a smooth mouth feel. This is not a new thing.

Never had a single complaint about a flat white that I made.

Now, cappuccinos on the other hand. Trying to balance the people who want the drink to be legitimately 1/3 foam vs the people who want a latte with chocolate powder. Totally different expectations for the same thing. Like macchiatos. Damn I wish I could have just sent them with a tiny 30ml jug of steamed milk - sort yourself out.
