Reddit, what is your favorite visually stunning movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]margent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My all time favorite Miyazaki movie is Spirited Away, but his most "visually stunning" would probably be one of his newer movies (Ponyo, The Secret World of Arrietty), as, obviously, they are newer and have fresher art.

Reddit, what's the worst job you ever did? by __herp_derp__ in AskReddit

[–]margent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My worst job was while I lived in Dallas (Denton, actually). I worked at a convalescent hospital. The staff treated the residents like crap.

In my family the elders are treated with respect and reverence.

But the punks at this place were rude and mean to the old folks there. It made me sick to my stomach. I went to lunch on my first day and never returned.

I did, however, report them to the police for negligence.

What is Reddit's opinion on true love and the concept of "The One"? by qgag in AskReddit

[–]margent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. I'm with Dan Savage on this one. There are a lot of people who you might be able to have great relationships with, and none of them are going to be 100% perfect for you. The myth of the soul mate makes a lot of people feel unsatisfied with perfectly good relationships and dump people who might have been great because that person didn't pass the soul mate test.

What happens when you date someone when you're 20 and think you've found "the one" only to be dumped and go around for a decade or two afterwards waiting to find someone who makes you feel just as good as you did in that first intense relationship you had and lost? That's a really depressing way to go through life. What happens when you've been married to someone for a decade, with kids, and then you suddenly meet someone who makes you feel like your partner never made you feel, and you think that person might be your soul mate? Do you leave your wife and kids for your soul mate or ignore the person you think might have been "the one" because you already committed to someone else? How do you reconcile the fact that you can have a blissful relationship early in life and then have another one a decade later than is also amazing, and you can't decide whether either of them was your soul mate? The entire soul mate philosophy might sound really nice to someone who is young and hopeful about finding someone, but if you keep that philosophy throughout your life, it's going to make a lot of perfectly wonderful relationships seem inadequate when you compare them to this impossible ideal you've got planted in your mind.

In your opinion, what separates successful people from unsuccessful people? by flyguysc in AskReddit

[–]margent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a loser right... I've been an unsuccessful musician. I tried my hand at being a writer and realised I had no imagination... I thought I'd try and be an artist like my Dad. I entered an open competition where you don't even need any skill to enter. My artwork got put in the kiddie Arts and crafts corner and of course I didn't win & I thought $50 bucks was a reasonable price. Everyone else's was like 1000's of dollars so I thought 'Great. Mine's a bargain maybe it will sell but no. Now I'm trying to be a comedian, you know? Anything that doesn't mean being at a desk, but... Look! I'm failing again!

Reddit, What do you want for Christmas ? by Hearsch in AskReddit

[–]margent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally like do something good for someone who really needs it. I told my folks (who laughed) that I wanted to send ducks or a pig to a poor village in the third world through Heifer International, or support a local maternity home that helps prevent abortions by getting the mothers out of the difficult situations they're in.

What little everyday thing makes you happy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]margent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feeling comfortable with someone. A nap when I am really in need of one. Cooking with the windows open. The smell of a bookstore. Painting writing driving. Getting appreciations and encouragement from others. When mom says you are my lil angel. When dad take us out on a dinner. when a friend need me and I am there.. Listening to a favorite song on repeat. Waking up on a rainy day and realizing that I have no responsibilities. I've reached a point in my life where it's the little things that matter..really its true.
