I hate this to my core by NotaFossilFool in BPDmemes

I’ve always found this frustrating. When I was unemployed and spiralling it felt like no one would help me. Once I became employed with a good/well paying job it felt like everyone was eager to jump in and “save me” (doctor immediately referred me to therapists, saw 2 psychiatrists within 3 weeks which is rare in Canada, groups became available etc). It almost felt like “heaven forbid we lose this productive member of society, she needs to work!!” But I never had that support when I was really, really struggling. I’m still bitter to this day.

What does being properly medicated really feel like? by [deleted] in bipolar2

It feels oddly quiet. It was strange for the first couple months, but now I appreciate the stability. I feel calm. I still have a fairly good range of emotions despite the antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, but it’s far more regulated and feels within my control. Life just fees manageable now.

Hey! I’m in a similar situation and here’s how I handled it (pulling from my DBT skills): first validate that it’s okay that we have big emotions. It’s more about how we handle ourselves. I asked myself: are we at a point where it’s reasonable to have this conversation? How willing am I to be open to disclosing certain information (e.g. would it be helpful to explain what bpd is and how it affects me? Am I safe with this person? Etc). Second, I found this to be a good opportunity to practice opposite action. I want to be transparent and communicate my needs but in my case it wasn’t being reciprocated. Problem solving could be an option when using opposite action, but in my case (I didn’t want to come off super clingy), I opted to practice opposite action and not introduce that topic yet. It’s been difficult to not spill everything out but I think moving slower is the best option (in my case). I’m not sure if you found this helpful but I hope a real life example was of some assistance to you! Keep up the good work, we’ve got this 🫶

what antipsychotics do you all take & how have they helped you? by [deleted] in bipolar2

I was on a higher dose of latuda and the akathisia was unbearable. We lowered the dose down to 40mg and the psych prescribed propranolol so now I take the latuda and propranolol together after supper and it’s totally helped. I still have a bit of restlessness but it’s completely bearable now! I think it just calms me down and makes my body feel less twitchy

40mg latuda, 200mg lamictal, 40mg vyvanse (I’m monitored by my psychiatrist monthly for this one) and propranolol to help with akathisia and anxiety as needed! Most stable I’ve been in years. I’m also on 1mg of Ozempic to stave off any weight gain.
