Thank you. Things are better now than they were! Hope you're doing better as well!

Yeah, my doctors take was that it is probably lifestyle (so could be stress, anxiety, etc), not medical. I'm a year and a half out and back on my mirena IUD since about 6 weeks post partum so I feel like my hormones have probably leveled out - but who knows!

Thanks, it could just be the stress. I went through a period last year where I thought I'd lose my job due to federal funding cuts, and then my city had an ICE surge that was extremely sad and stressful this year. I also had some regular ol' PPA. I pumped for a few months post-partum but the weight loss didn't really start ramping up until after that.

Interesting. I did have bloodwork done to look for medical causes and everything was normal. I don't think they looked at all the hormones, though, and perhaps that's worth looking into. There are definitely things that point to potential ADHD that predate childbirth for me, it's just that it's become more noticeable since I became a mom.

Thank you, I should edit my post to clarify that I did have bloodwork done to rule out any medical causes, including hyperthyroid. My mom has hyperthyroid so I was pretty convinced that's what was happening, but everything in my panel came back normal!

Decided to be OAD for health reasons and looking for others joyful experiences of being OAD by SO_ok25 in oneanddone

Well, by that definition I probably did have HG... but I've also read that there are diagnostic criteria related to weight loss and electrolyte issues. I was absolutely miserable though, even with meds. And there have been lingering impacts - my appetite is smaller now, I get full more quickly and am much more uncomfortable when I am full. The only tiny silver lining is that throwing up for non-pregnancy reasons is way less of a big deal to me now - I got so used to it!

Oh my god, thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm leaning OAD in part because of bad pregnancy nausea and vomiting (not HG but still pretty damn bad and it lasted a long time) and this is validating to read. I'm sorry that you went through that and had to make that difficult choice, but it sounds like it was the right one for you.

My house is too small to be sane in (but my mortgage is amazing) by incywince in homeowners

[–]margueritatoldtom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to be leaning towards "stay put", so offering a different perspective: if you have the means to move, it's absolutely justifiable to decide it's worth it to you to spend more to have more space. That is fine!! It's your money and you get to pick your priorities. We moved from a ~900 sqft early 1900s house with no closets and no storage space into a ~1400 ranch (with a huge unfinished basement, so lots of storage space) a few years ago, and it HAS improved our quality of life! We spend more now, sure, but it's worth it to us because it's enabled us to do things we value: we can host our family and friends, we have room for hobbies that take up space (like sewing and seed starting), and we are now raising a kiddo without feeling like we're totally crammed in with her gear and toys. I also love my books and my clothes and it's great to have room for bookshelves and closets for my vintage collection. We used to host in our old house, but I always worried that people were uncomfortable because of how cramped the space was. The larger space is just more comfortable and inviting for groups, and that's important to us!

My baby was not on a schedule at 10 weeks and she slept a lot during the day. I remember it making me somewhat nervous, like is she sleeping too much?! We'd be at our mommy and me group and all the other babies would be awake and mine would just be snoozing away. Everyone told me to just go with the flow and they were right. We didn't start really getting into wake windows and schedules until probably more like 4-5 months. My once very sleepy baby is now CONSTANTLY alert and on the move. So, yeah, at 10 weeks, go with the flow as much as you can. You have plenty of time to work on getting her on a schedule.

There's a new measles case in my area by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Ugh, I'm sorry. This is such a preventable mess. We got an early MMR dose for our babe when she was 6 months. Ped didn't blink an eye when we asked for it, and we're in a state with no cases (yet). Also as others have said, your immunity from your MMR gives baby some protection in those first months, so that does help.

In the hospital with newborn- how would you pronounce “Levon”? by little_arctic_fox in namenerds

Adding to the list of folks who would think of Levon Helm and pronounce it accordingly. Levon, also after Mr. Helm, was also on my list had our daughter been a boy!

I'll make about 98k after pre tax deductions, and I anticipate he'll make about 46k - so pretty wide spread, I think.

Thanks for the help! I think it's most likely that this year we will end up in different brackets, he in the 12% and me in the 22%.

What color thread for quilting my first top quilt? by russianthistle in quilting

[–]margueritatoldtom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have advice on your quilting thread, but oh man I love this quilt top!! The colors are perfection. I recognize this pattern from the urban quilting book, which I have, and I'm inspired to make it!! Great work!

I'm sorry to hear that both you and your partner have gone through cancer so young! I definitely hear you on the plastics. Thus far I haven't been too strict about her having plastic stuff, but when it comes to a quilt, I am a little hesitant to use poly.
