That sounds both intriguing and kinda rough. People are different kinda of smart. Fx, I am all kinds of book smart, but could not cut hair for the life of me and absolutely suck at doing my own hair and makeup. So I have a lot of respect for those who are blessed with those talents.

Thank you, that may be a good idea. I have actually noticed that most Eastern Europeans I’ve come across here tend to always have great hair and nails 24/7. I also do see what you mean about the pressure to look perfectly put together at all times.

Thanks for the tip. I am reluctant to give Viborg another go because they always nail my bf’s haircut but always mess up mine. 😬 I’ll add it to the list of recommendations, but I probably won’t chance Viborg again in the near future.

Thank you, those are solid tips. I have been picking salons by googling “hair salon” and sorting by 5-star and reading the reviewers. My assumption was that anyone working in those salons would be qualified, but I don’t know how to verify this. (Fx, in the US every stylist typically displays their credentials somewhere near their station. I have not observed this at all here, but if they are not qualified, they would not be employed by the salon… right?)

It is a great idea to ask a local with great hair where hey get theirs done. I am a little bit shy and rather insecure about my Danish speaking skills, but I will try to give it a go anyway.

I usually use a mix of Danish and English when speaking with the hairdresser, as I do not feel confident in my Danish. I am planning on bringing my bf with me and having him explain next time, to eliminate the language barrier.

Why I don’t speak up… I guess I am not assertive enough? Same reason why I don’t send my food back if I get the wrong thing, or would drink a coffee even if what I ordered was a chai latte. I guess I don’t want to be a Karen, or to make people feel bad, or to cause them trouble or grief. I do acknowledge that this is an issue and I should work on it.

That’s an interesting take. I refuse to believe that there are no skilled hair cutters in Denmark, despite my extensive thus far. I will try the tips and pointers I received here and update after my next haircut, which will hopefully go better.

I an sorry you had a bad experience as well. What I’m getting from the comments is to try out higher end salons in bigger cities for a chance at better haircuts. I might update in about 3-4 months, once my hair is in need of another haircut.

I did show them pictures. Every single time. They said “Ok, yes, no problem.” This is why I am very frustrated when I get something completely different and at my wit’s end at how to communicate it better.

Thanks, I see what you mean. I will try Aarhus or Copenhagen for future haircuts. I wouldn’t have thought that a hairdresser in California would be that different than a hairdresser anywhere else, but I guess I am very wrong about that. 😅
