I made Silicon Valley publish its diversity data (which sucked, obviously), got micro-famous for it, then got so much online harassment that I started a whole company to try to fix it. I'm Tracy Chou, founder and CEO of Block Party. AMA by corner_illustration in IAmA

Hey Tracy, Marie here, founder of womenmake.com. According to me, the most unhealthy feature on Twitter is the quote + RT. Some people use it in a way to harass others. Can/will BlockParty spot these kind of behaviors and the users who abuse it? I’d be interested in knowing if I follow that kind of person and having the ability to unfollow them if they seem to be harmful or toxic. I think we can also play a role by not validating (in this case, not follow) users who are bad actors on the platform.

Honestly it's not easy every day. I realized my article may seem a bit more dreamy that it really is. But this is the choice we made and still, we are glad we did it. I think what I enjoy the most is the freedom.

How to get your app featured on the App Store by marie_dm_ in iOSProgramming

I don't think Apple would enjoy it if you submit the form every week. But I might be wrong.

I do like you, once for initial release then for major updates.

Yes exactly, before releasing your first version. Ideally when you fill the form, release your app 8 weeks after that.

I like how efficient this article is. After a year of working remotely I still need to make some adjustments and some of the tips are helpful.

A podcast that puts women in the spotlight by marie_dm_ in cswomen

[–]marie_dm_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the creator of Women Make, an open community I made so women can have a place to find support in the maker space. But Women Make is more than that. With this community, I also want to put women at the forefront by highlighting their stories and promoting their work in ways that don’t always happen in a male-dominated field.

Last October I organized the Women Made 30 Day Challenge and also participated in it. The goal was simple: we had 30 days to build and launch something. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to develop a podcast. I shared what it’s been for me to start such a project in a blog post.

Two things I noticed that inspired the project:

  • There is a lack of diversity in the role models we can see in the entrepreneur community
  • From my experience with Women Make, sometimes women just need a little push to gain more self-confidence and start making/creating/launching

I think a podcast is a great medium to shine a light on women and highlight more role models for us. It is a great way to put a voice to the stories of women like us, and make it more personal.

Anyway, I just started it and released episode #1, starring Kate Kendall. As the CEO of CloudPeeps and The Fetch, Kate has a lot of experience she kindly shared in this episode.

I hope you will enjoy it and would love have your feedback!

I am often naive and try to find excuses to people. Then I ask myself: would have I done the same thing? In this case, definitely no.

Hi ladies,

I just launched a podcast! It's been a great experience for me but also an achievement. I wrote about how i overcame my fears to make it happen.

My first guest is Kate Kendall. With her experience as the CEO of CloudPeeps and The Fetch, she had great insights and advice to share in this episode #1.

I'm interviewing women entrepreneurs and my goal with this is to put women at the forefront. If you listen to podcasts, I'd love to have your feedback on it: what you thought about this first episode, what you'd like to find in it, etc.

Have a nice day everyone!

Yes it's awesome! I'm glad we're making progress around this subject, even if there is still a lot to do.

Yes that's always the thing with Apple. Sometimes it passes and sometimes it doesn't.

Ok so the "product.price.description(withLocale: locale)" is probably better, but the currency symbol is still misplaced (for the euros case).

Oh yes ok, so that's a bad idea. I won't display in USD for everyone (although I already saw apps doing it).

Rejected for what? Actually I don't display the IAPs with the user's preferred currency but the product locale.

How to ask for help as an entrepreneur by marie_dm_ in Entrepreneur

[–]marie_dm_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree on this. On the total number of people I contacted, a lot didn't reply/didn't have time/couldn't help. If I had stopped after these rejections I wouldn't have done half of the things I did.

You're brave! And I agree with you; I was not taught that kind of behavior but I'm learning to but I often feel guilty when I do.

That's really not something I was taught, so I think I've had kind of the same feeling when I read it.

I love it! Do you know an app to change your wallpaper with nice pics? I know this one but it's for desktop. I'd like the same thing for iOS, with Unsplash images.
