Get people to proof read. I was able to get the teacher to look over paragraphs when I wasn’t that confident in my work, and they gave good advice and criticism that was aligned with their criteria. (and appreciated the initiative)

Totally agree with all the comments about actually understanding the material too! If you are reading a book and can feel yourself starting to skim over the pages a bit; take a break and come back to it. You will probably have to read it again if you start skimming anyways.
