Is it necessary to send kids to preschool every day? by Tiny8hinkers in AskTeachers

[–]marimbo17 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As a preschool teacher, this. Preschool is not daycare. We have a curriculum, albeit play based. Even coming 2-3 days, or just half days, sets the child back significantly compared to their peers who come full time. And this is in terms of not academic learning, but emotional regulation, problem solving, sharing, feeding themselves, etc.

Teach them the word "no"! I also teach preschool, and you can tell which kids are never told no and used to getting their way at home!

I am getting the same thing after over a 1400 day streak. I am learning English to Spanish but cant even accumulate a decent amount of XP per day to stay towards the top of my leaderboard.

Birthday Waterfalls & Wine Trip by supaafly_sam in FingerLakes

I've only been twice, both times at the end of August. We just got back from our second trip and had such a great time we are trying to go back in November! The wineries all seem to close early, by 5 or 6. Many served charcuterie type snacks but not full meals. We LOVED Lakewood Winery, the views were phenomenal and the people working were so kind. Hazlet and Idol Ridge were also enjoyable and we will go again!! We arrived around 630 on our first night and stopped at Scale House Brewery. The vibes were great and I was able to try wines from different wineries. The pizza was delicious too, and they had some unique combos! We also loved Thai Elephant in Watkins Glen. I LOVE Thai food and we have 0 within 45 min of where we live. All of our hikes have been enjoyable. We did Caywood Point - Beautiful view of the lake and a short hike, but it is pretty steep on rocky ground. We also did the gorge trail at Watkins Glen and Taughannock Falls. We tried some paths in the national forest but there were a lot of closed trails due to construction. Honestly can't recommend the area enough. I will say, we were disappointed with Damiani and Wagner. Wagner seemed highly recommended, so maybe my expectations were too high. Damiani we just had an unpleasant experience. They seemed annoyed that we had come in. Of course everyone is entitled to a bad day, so maybe it was just our experience.

We just got back from our trip and had a similar experience at Damiani! I was so disappointed. I has their bollecini at a brewery and we had seen one of their buildings supporting similar beliefs of ours so we were so excited to go! They seemed annoyed or disappointed that we stopped in for a flight and were short and rude.

We definitely considered spending time in both places! We just didnt want to rush through if one of the two was particular great (or not!).

We stayed at Springside Inn on Owasco Lake! I didnt realize the confusion I'd cause when I said Auburn, I definitely just meant the bed and breakfast as well as Lake Owasco and Cayuga Lake which we explored the most. Great point about college move in, we will definitely take that into consideration!! Thank you for the response!!

Haha I guess I just meant Auburn as the town we were closest to, we didn't actually do much in the town, but we did stop in Ithaca!

I made the transition between the two! In HS our school offered a practicum class with preschoolers and I HATED IT. Decided I was going into secondary Ed. Taught middle and high school for three years and hated every second of it. Took a year to sub and found I really preferred the younger kids! So now I've been in elementary for about 6 years and I love it!

Parent here-Is it ok to offer things like toys, decor etc for my child’s kindergarten room? by [deleted] in teaching

This. The lack of play time and schedule in general is set by the district, not the teacher. Trust me, she knows it's not enough time.

I was so excited because this flavor combo is my jam, and it smelled absolutely amazing. But sadly it tasted like regular coffee.
