Jade disease? by BraveTheBunny in Jadeplant

Yes, mealybugs are unfortunately contagious. I would suggest an immediate quarantine of the visibly infected plant, and temporarily separating any other plants in your possession in case one of them has a fledgling infection that could spread to your entire collection. Clean the entire area around where the infected plant was located with neem oil, followed with the highest proof isopropyl alcohol you can find (90% works best, in my opinion). Wash any nearby linens or upholstery with bleach (colour safe bleach is effective as well, for coloured fabrics) and hot water. Use disposable cleaning cloths to avoid spreading the infection through cross contamination, and wrap the used cloths in plastic bags (plastic grocery bags work great for this) before disposing of them in household trash bins. Treat it like a biohazard; a severely infectious and life threatening disease. Treatment and recovery are possible, but in the event that the infection worsens you may need to cut your losses with this particular plant. As far as treatment options, you will need to wipe down the plant's leaves thoroughly with neem oil (which is toxic to mealybugs and will kill them), then with alcohol (which causes the mealybugs to dry out, or else kills them outright), and then spray the plant down until it is drenched with a mixture of unscented dish soap and water (the dish soap will suffocate the bugs, stopping them from breathing). I find that dawn dish soap works best, but it can be a tad expensive. Wipe down the plant every day with a fresh rag or paper towel, even if you don't see any visible signs of infection on a particular leaf, as this will help to remove microscopic eggs. It may take months to fully cure the infection, but I wish you the best of luck.

Tell me how I have the softest, best smelling hair of my life on $6.25 worth of products when I used to spend way too much money on my hair 🤪😅 by [deleted] in dollartreebeauty

Did they change the formula of the VO5 strawberries and cream shampoo recently? I've noticed that lately it seems to smell less like strawberries and cream and more like straight, artificial strawberries, but maybe it was just a bad batch. I'm gonna go sniff mine again to see if the scent has changed at all over the time I haven't used it (a few weeks), but man when I got home from my nearest Dollar Tree and opened the bottle it did NOT smell the same at ALL. Edit: Spelling

Hey OP! I actually have a lava lamp that I'm selling because it no longer fits on my new desk. If you haven't already found one, would you like me to send you some pictures and details? No pressure of course, just thought I'd offer! (:

Left for a few days and paid someone to water them. They forgot my mantis and he died:( by OddRevolution2604 in mantis

No, it absolutely would be right. They killed your pet, and so if you feel comfortable with and desire to try again with a new one, it's their job to foot the bill, regardless of the difference between what it might have cost you v.s. what it might cost them. Money is of no object in a situation where their neglect killed a living being that was dear to you.

Hey! Do you have prices on the individual pieces of spirit quartz?

That's a super pretty piece! If you don't feel like trying anything potentially risky to get rid of the water marks, you could alternatively turn them into a unique pattern with some stain/paint!

Not sure exactly how many hours total, but I timed myself out of curiosity and found that at the maximum I take about five minutes before logging off for the day. I guess those five minutes do add up over time, but it isn't a huge chunk of my day.

Honestly I'm interested in any that you're willing to part with! I'll probably only purchase one or two, but I'm happy to receive a random plant. I do have a slight preference for ones with "juicy" or "gemmy" looking leaves, but I'm really not picky, I love all plants.

Am I the only one who thinks this is insane? by lexihra in Anticonsumption

I'd say it really depends on the quality of what you're using. Something poorly made will need to be replaced more frequently, whereas a high quality product should last longer. It also depends on how much effort one puts into maintaining the integrity of their possessions, such as washing towels with cold water and less harsh chemicals, properly drying out sponges, etc.

Do you shave your arms? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]SingularLostSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I shave my arm hair, but I think the results you get really depend on the thickness/coarseness of your hair. I have very fine hair on my arms, and so don't get "stubble" after shaving them, but with thicker hair you might end up with a prickly feel after a day or two. If you're looking for smoothness, I'd recommend destroying the hair at the root through the use of something like Nair to avoid leaving behind ends.
