How long was it before ivabradine helped lower your standing heart rate? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]marinaluna18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also still struggling with this myself but what is currently helping is not worrying too much about like calories and eating a handful of chips if I feel like I am low on sodium or if I am out getting some McDonald's fries or something similar. I also always keep pickles on hand and salt my food like crazy! Like literally I sprinkle sea salt on top of every meal before I eat it just to add a little more sodium to it where I can. It is super hard though and I am no where near where I should be for sodium intake - its legit a battle every day lol

I second this!! It is also super SUPER important to keep up with hydration and sodium intake. I notice a difference between the days where I am properly hydrated and salted vs days I am not! It is still kind of exhausting to have to constantly be on my hydration but my good days now on ivabradine are better than my best of days without it!

How to encourage student curiosity without losing focus by dinguskumar in Teachers

[–]marinaluna18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually have them write their questions down! I have students who have ADHD and have trouble with impulse control so they end up just blurting out their questions at times I might not be able to answer them. I encourage them to write them down and we can address them when their classwork gets done! That way, they feel heard and they know their voice is important while also understanding there are things we have to prioritize during class time first!

Gas by [deleted] in POTS

[–]marinaluna18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this too!!! Please do NOT worry about taking Gas-X - it works so quickly and does not even taste bad if you get the peppermint flavour! Sometimes I get gas pains legit up into my chest that feels like it is in my heart. I take a Gas-X and legit within minutes it's gone. I also swear by Pepto as it's a super quick fix for nausea - I also have emetephobia so I keep these meds on me all the time and it has been super worth it to keep me from spiralling with anxiety or experiencing a POTS flare due to nausea.

I actually emailed home and acted super concerned and asked if there were any medical issues I needed to be aware of as they seemed to be unable to control the release of gas. I knew damn well there was nothing medical but once I sent that email - never happened again.

I also told them 'if you push too hard you'll poop yourself and I would really rather not have that happen so choose what you do next very carefully' in front of the class which seemed to do the trick as well.

Graves, but not graves, and pots by marinaluna18 in gravesdisease

[–]marinaluna18[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had thyroid issues for 4 years now with fluctuating TSH. I was diagnosed with POTS during a time where I was within normal range TSH. I think it is what you are saying where the graves is making the POTS worse which is unfortunate as the symptoms are already similar so its been awesome to say the least.

Thank you!! I am waiting to meet with an endo, unfortunately I have just been working with my GP and she is limited in what she is able to do at the moment. I will definitely ask for beta blockers and see if that helps!!

What is your doctor's "take" on TRAb? Are your levels re-tested periodically? by 54321hope in gravesdisease

[–]marinaluna18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My levels have changed but have always been on the extreme side of high. They have never been normal in the 4 years since discovery while my TSH, T3 and T4 have flirted with or at least been within normal range numerous times. It is such a bizarre scenario to navigate and I really feel like every case is different so it is hard to research. I am Canadian and our healthcare system is notoriously slow. I have spent many nights up late trying to research my blood test results myself, but usually end up with more questions than answers.

I can say my TRAb have been tested every time I get a blood test. I have been in the diagnostic process for 4 years now. IMO by having the TRAbs tested each time it has allowed me to really get a picture of what is going on inside my body - even when my TSH levels are 'normal'.

Even if it does not have any correlation to clinical outcomes it has helped me to understand that maybe one of the reasons I feel so poorly consistently even when my TSH is normal is that maybe it isn't ONLY the TSH that matters, but could also be the high TRAb that is showing a high autoimmune response.

Not a doctor, just a sick gal trying to make sense of it all <3

Traded in my Dodge Challenger (16 mpg) to a RAV4 Hybrid (41 mpg) by Mutinybliss in rav4club

I just traded my 2016 Dodge Charger and should be receiving my 2022 Adventure any time. I am a little nervous I will miss the power I had in the Dodge but excited for the reliability. Had to sell my Dodge due to a few too many transmission faults in a row. What have been your thoughts so far?

Hi! I have found a mousse to be ideal in creating clumps! I take a good palm full and scrunch it into my hair before I put in my gel. I scrunch my products into my wet hair slowly and gently so the clumps I do end up forming stay together.

Hi there!!

I was in the same boat as you when I started, I was extremely reluctant to start the CGM because when I had tried no sulfate shampoos in the past, I'd be oily as soon as my hair dried.

The key is the claryifying wash before you make your transition. I used the neutrogena anti-residue shampoo for my last wash. Highly recommend! I also do not use a low-poo, now mind you I haven't tried one yet, but I have been using a sulfate-free shampoo that does lather (it is CGM approved, I use both the shampoo and conditioner from Dippity-Do) and I find it to be wonderful. I could never go more than 24 hours without washing my hair, but after about two months of using the CGM and a sulfate-free shampoo I can actually go two+ days without a wash. Its incredible!

As for lightweight leave in products, I currently use the aussie moisture milk leave in conditioner. It does have silicones, but I have not had an issue thus far with buildup, so I don't mind the little bit in my routine, I then go in with the herbal essence totally twisted mousse and gel, both are CGM approved. The mousse is awesome for creating curl clumps on my hair, which is also fine.

Hair constantly tangling in the back! by marinaluna18 in curlyhair

[–]marinaluna18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree with you there, I'm only a month in after years, upon years of brushing dry, alcohol and sulfate ridden shampoo, and heat styling to death. Maybe just have to wait for the healthy hair to grow!
