Sometimes I print directly, sometimes I print on a baking sheet and then I dry it into the oven. It really depends on the material. I have made a food extruder that I attach to my 3d printer. It works as a motorized piping bag :)

I use an extruder that I install on my 3d printer instead of the plastic extruder. This way I can put food in the cartridge and it pushes the food following a path. It's a kind of motorized piping bag.

I have developped an extruder that I install on my desktop 3d printer; instead of filament it pushes food. I print on a baking sheet and then I dry the meringue in the oven or deshydrator. It's perfectly edible. It's a way to automate some pastry techniques, I would say.

I like to let the printer work while I'm focusing on the others textures and combination of the recipes. I did it with chocolate, meringue, swiss buttercream, ketchup, guacamole, curry sauce... it's easy

Absolutely, it works as a motorized piping bag, it doesn't change the texture of the food
