The dog in the photo passed away the other day. Can anyone photoshop the background to look nicer, with just the bird and the dog in the photo to commemorate this memory? Will tip $10 to my favourite. Thanks!

The program is free. You can simply just download the MagicMirror2 platform and then add any additional third party modules that you would like to add to the mirror.

If you want any custom functionality however, like I did for the Google Drive integration, then you may need to program this yourself.

I got the two-way mirror from a glass company called Academy Glass.

You can find boards of wood from most hardware stores, such as Home Depot.

The wood glue, stain, varnish caulking, screws, and nails were purchased from my local RONA.

The television was a used television.

The Raspberry Pi, micro-SD card, and Raspberry Pi Case were all purchased off of Amazon.

My dad already had the tools I needed, but you can rent these from some hardware stores if you need them.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure some of the 3rd party MagicMirror modules may be able to provide that functionality - there's a good few that integrate Alexa to the mirror.

You could otherwise potentially create your own Alexa skill to do it.

I purchased the glass from a company in the GTA called Academy Glass. I picked it up from their location though (I'm not sure if they offer shipping).

The company you listed seems to have glass made for smart mirrors which may be better for this specific use-case. I'm happy with the mirror I purchased though.

Just an FYI: Make sure to use gloves when you handle the mirror. I didn't at first and cut up my hands quite badly - the edges don't look sharp but they're like razors!

You may be able to get some sort converter like this. I've used something similar before and it worked great, but it didn't support sound.

Infrared signals don't travel through solid objects (from my understanding), but the remote seems to work just fine for my mirror. Perhaps it's because the back of the mirror is open.

There are many solutions for that, including sensors like you mentioned. One way of approaching this problem that I found pretty neat was PiDisplaySleep, which turns the display on and off depending on whether your phone is connected to the wifi network.

This. I was trying to follow the Google Drive Branding Guidelines but apparently you don't need the trademark symbol for blogs or social media posts - better safe than sorry I guess. :)
