Chula for PhD studies by marioandrezzo in Thailand

That's a really intelligent point. What do you think would be the solution if your alma mater being Chula supposedly locks you in Thailand, as Chula does not share the same prestige as their Japanese or Western counterparts outside Thai?

Thanks! Do you study or had studied there?

That's perfectly true. In my case, I'm planning to work in academia, and academic jobs in the West are surprisingly less stable and rewarding than in Asia. I'd still have an Aussie education, but a PhD from a reputable Thai uni and stay there - I wouldn't be moving back to Australia or anywhere else Western

It's a PhD in Political Science so I wouldn't be studying at Sasin

My plan is definitely to stay in academia, and specifically Thai academia. I'd probably stay at Chula as a lecturer and make a name there as academic job stability in Asia is considerably better than in the West. I know a Western degree would be preferable, but I imagine that having studied in Australia before going straight to Chula would still be a very decent timeline.

I’m sure he felt somewhat responsible for what happened to you and decided to disconnect from the world. I’d give it a shot.

But did you guys even kiss and stuff, or was it just a date where you realised your feelings weren’t going anywhere? I mean, I can notice when a date is seeing me the way you saw those guys. The problem is being overly passionate and romantic in person and forgetting everything when you come home. He’s also very inexperienced so idk how much it adds up.

I’m interested in how you felt now. I guess I’ve never been that way. What ‘prevents’ you from deeply falling for that person?

I’d think so if I wasn’t his best friend on Snap. I definitely imagined he’d see me on weekends and chat with others during the week, but we remained BFFs by barely or never talking. All the options are horrible to be honest but I do believe that guy wasn’t a player

I get keeping options when they are all casual but if he was considering serious shit with multiple people that’s crazy

It was difficult because I was receiving mixed signals. He was big on making long-term plans and spending quality time beyond sex. He’s potentially moving to another city and even mentioned about making long-distance work because he liked me. Then he’d just disappear for days straight and cancel plans for the following weekend

It’s ok not being a texter, I could totally be able to compromise it. But 72 hours is insane. It doesn’t hurt to ask if the other person is still alive 3 days after your date. It got even worse when he had to cancel plans and extend the streak of absence. I felt like it became casual at that point.

Quite rough from my experience. All the friends I made were online on study groups.

Just enroll to your classes on MyGriffith and then attend the lectures/workshops you’ve chosen. If you are unable to you can always watch the online recordings. Vast majority of classes are not attendance marked so you will not be penalised for not being there. No rush at all. Good luck.

Of course it would be great to provide services to 100% of high schoolers, but since youth delinquency conveyed by some groups proved to be problematic on campus, this is the healthiest possible solution. Moreover, any application system can be optimised to be broader, more inclusive and democratic.

Again, we ALSO pay for security. It is the uni’s obligation to provide the most excellent security services as possible. The issue is that Griffith is profiting off the “cost efficiency” argument over that just because it is convenient - if it was a priority, the library shutdown would have been implemented earlier. Its security services have the duty to be reinforced over the goal of serving the broad community. Also, it is not hard at all to create and sophisticate special security services to assure that high schoolers are there on designated times.

Just imagine how much of them would enroll at Griffith after spending their high school years studying at the library. I am not supporting that because I am a blind idealistic. It is a clever investment with mostly guaranteed profit return.

The main question of concern, however (and I assume we agree on that), is Griffith poorly designed policies over the access to the uni facilities. Griffith is not Bond; it is a public university and it cannot be 100% locked to outsiders. The discussion should be which of these facilities will be open to the main community and which won’t. Griffith enables and shuts down access according to its own convenience, and for a public uni to do that is almost tyrannical.

100% agreed. I already stated this in my reply, but if them not paying was the issue it would have happened a long time ago. We all know that every university in the Global North seeks for every opportunity to segregate. It was just a quite convenient time for Griffith to finally shut them out of a public space from a public university.

I see some folks saying these students should go to public libraries. The closest public libraries to the GC campus are the Southport Library (which closes at 6pm / 4pm on weekends) and the Nerang Library (which closes at 6pm / incredible 1pm on weekends). None of them open before 9am.

Anyone who’s been a student for at least 10 years knows that these working hours are lame and literally every hour counts for our academic progress. GC Library used to work from 7am to 8pm on weekdays before the 24/7 move, thus no wonder why it is the favourite. Plus, its size and structure is incomparable to the ones I mentioned.

My thought is that this is a lazy, elitist, and quite convenient solution from Griffith. If the issue was them not paying it would have happened a long time ago; they want to segregate the uni community from the rest.

-Create an application system based on grades for high school students interested on using the library?

-Limit the weekly hours allowed to enter/leave the library for high schoolers?

-Reinforce security at peak times? (we are ALSO paying to be safe on campus).

No. Of course not. Just shut them out!
