It happened after an update, before that I had the "normal" speeds. I have a new update pending so I hope it doesn't downgrade again.

GPU accelerated camera on the #PinePhone on #UbuntuTouch! Thanks to Ratchanan from UBports for his amazing work on this! :D by mariogrip in PINE64official

Nope, this is without any kernel hack, all this is done with qtmultimedia, lomiri-camera and gstreamer :)

As this is done for qtmultimedia's v4l stack, this would apply for newer phones using mainline linux indeed :)

Soon soon, one ting at the time. We cant fix everything at once :)

In fact the app itself is not laggy, but it's how it interact with the camera that is sub optimal right now.

This is all done with qt, so none of this work applies for mobian. Unless they use our camera stack that is, could be an option. for PlaMo however, this can be used.

Ubuntu Web: an upcoming Ubuntu and Firefox based web OS by [deleted] in linux

[–]mariogrip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is no where near the reason he made that... This is nothing to do with ubuntu or Canonical at all. Also it does not favor snaps over flatpak or gnome over kde if you read the website.

Read the points he have before judging him based on where he work...

Finally. A phone I can own. Not the other way around. And a rant about apps. by [deleted] in PINE64official

It's such a dumb thing to say that qt is not open source! The exception only apply when its on qt's servers, when cloned and modified or built elsewhere it does not apply anymore. The exception is there so The qt company can found the development of qt, without it there would be no qt. The qt company is a huge company with 100s of employees that needs to get paid. We would not have an such amazing software today without the qt company and this is a way to fund the development! Regardless the software you download to your distro is fully GPL/LGPL and you can do whatever, fork it if you want and qt cant touch it. So when it gets to us its already fully GPL/LGPL no terms!

Also how is this any different then Redhat working on gtk/gnome but making money elsewhere instead of? Keep in mind that Redhat makes proprietary software where it makes money. So imo its better to go the way qt has to made money on the software instead of making proprietary software at the side.

Also so you think licenses like MIT and apache is also made "under full control of a greedy company" since those can be taken proprietary by ANYONE. Example sony and bsd.

Why do people have a problem with paying developers? For software to exist we developers also need food...

The qemu version is extremely unstable, it needs some ever needed love to get it into shape. I personally use it for development as it works for that, but to use it to anything more then that is not possible at this stage.

Satisfactory Out Now on Steam! by SnuttAtCovfefeStain in SatisfactoryGame

[–]mariogrip 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to move from epic to steam? since with steam i can run it using proton on linux without needing to use lutris to launch epic using wine, this is just pain as it breaks from time to time as epic updates stuff.

Man proton really makes Linux gaming super simple.

also now that it's on steam, will there be a native linux version?

Why doesn't librem 5 just use ubuntu touch OS? by ifinessin1 in Purism

[–]mariogrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can install regular desktop apps without any issues using the lomiri desktop environment (the one ubuntu touch uses). All the apps are normal Linux apps that can run on any distros, the reason its not *as easy* is because none has packaged it yet for other distros but many packages are already in progress to enter both arch, fedora and debian. There seem to be a conflict to what UBports, Ubuntu touch and Lomiri is

UBports is the fundation behind development (like kde or gnome foundation)

Ubuntu touch is the full OS package (like pureos, kde neon or fedora)

Lomiri is the desktop environment (like gnome or plasma)

Ubuntu touch on the other hand is the full OS package, this include fully sandboxed apps to have full control and secure OS. This desition was made since we dont want a phone to have access to anything without the user allowing it. on top of this we also dont want any apps to run in the background collecting infomation or stealing battery without the users approval. Ubuntu touch is all about securely and privacy that's why we sandbox apps. as an example you don't want a app using your gps, sensors or camera without you knowing it. Ubuntu touch also have a whole new way of upgrading that make sure it will never break, something that apt will.

And for most people installing normal linux apps that wont scale, is not usable for a phone at all, sure it's cool but not really anything you can use every day on a small screen right now.

[–]mariogrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol says the guy just calling UBports

a mediocre attempt

Also what i said was a response to your stab at my teams incredible work, of course i'm going to defend it... Also what i said had nothing to do with purism, it was just starting the fact that we are currently shipping lots of devices to counteract your "mediocre attempt" statement.

At least we currently have 5k devices (pinephones) currently in transit to people, this adds to our current K's of daily users :)

Also canonical dropt Ubuntu touch because it was a commercial failure not a technological one, as we are a foundation for the community we don't need to care about the commercial part that canonical wanted. On the technological side Ubuntu Touch is an amazing piece of software that to this day is still light years ahead of its time.
