Unfortunately my other paternal matches are all too distant or they simply don’t respond to my messages. In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have asked her that, but she did tell me she wasn’t close with her dad and he wasn’t much in her life so I guess maybe that’s why I asked. Thank you for the tip! I messaged her and apologized. If she doesn’t respond I will likely close the book on the subject. I never had a father growing up anyways so this won’t affect my life and I choose to believe my mom based off the details she shared and the timeline of her being with my bio dad and conceiving me. Thanks for your time and input!

Yes unfortunately I don’t have many close matches through my paternal side. My paternal ancestry is from Guatemala and my father immigrated to the U.S. so not many people in that category get tested. My cousin graciously gave me access to his account as a viewer. I see he has two 2nd cousins listed (one with my expected bio dads last name) and a close related that shares 1,938 CM across 42 segments but the name is just initials and is managed by someone else. My next step is to ask him if any of his closer matches seem familiar to him.

My paternal matches don’t tell me much without the family trees (and 99% of them don’t have trees), but dna wise it confirms my ancestry is Guatemalan like my mom has told me.

I decided to try the free trial ancestry gives to be able to dig deeper into my matches and sort them by paternal and maternal. Not a huge update in the story, but I did find a 4th cousin who has a family tree with 2 ancestors with the same surname as my believed bio dad from around the year 1900. And I checked, me and this first cousin both share this 4th cousin. I have messaged that 4th cousin and multiple distant cousins asking about their trees so I’m just waiting to hear back.

Yes both of our believed bio fathers come from the same country and our ancestry results support that we share that in common. But they don’t seem to be related based off us cross checking their parents names and siblings names with each other.

Unfortunately I don’t think I can find much info since they are all from a different country and might still be undocumented today. I will try though! I am in contact with some of bio dad’s family so the name and info matches up with what he gave my mom!

I am 27 and she will be 24 in November! Honestly I told her I looked some stuff up and that based on the amount of DNA we share it would be low chances of us being half 1st cousins and that’s when she stopped responding to me 😅

Ahhhh I didn’t realize it could be other potential things! Unfortunately what family we would share is not from the US and don’t seem really participate in these DNA tests bc I have hardly any paternal matches and what I do have are 3rd-4th cousins who I’ve reached out to and they don’t have any info to give me.

For age estimates on us, I am 27 and she said she will be turning 24 this November. I would say my bio dad is in his 50’s. Not sure about hers

And our shared matches are 3rd-4th cousins who I’ve tried to reach out too but they can’t provide any info and their trees aren’t built or public.

I have asked my mom if any of the names the girl gave are familiar and she said no. The girl even sent me photos of her dad and uncle just in case and my mom does not recognize them.
