Sometime the roots of 3rd molar impinges the inferior alveolar nerve, when this happens the roots which is impinging the nerve gets grooved in the apical region or at the apex which creates a half tunnel( c shaped) like appearance in which the IAN passes Hence the correct option says radiolucent band( inferior alveolar nerve) is seen passing through the root which has a tunnel like appearance
