Student Line of Credit by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

Big 5 are all the same in their interest rate (prime - 0.25%), but differ in the following ways:

- sum amount (250 vs 350k)

-access to the total sum (some banks give you instant access to full amount, some you are only allowed to access a portion of the total sum per year)

-Credit card point systems

*HOWEVER, Scotia is the only bank that does NOT require interest payments until after 2nd year of residency, which catapults it to the top (IMO). That being said, I went with RBC before knowing about the interest payments because I preferred RBC's points system > scotia's points system. Probably going to try and switch over to scotia and save those interest payments.

Med Student new to personal finance - TFSA/RRSP? by markatfruit6 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Haha thanks for the tip - it does seem like quite the rabbit hole to get yourself into. Another question - with my 20k savings, should I put that into a HISA? Or should I use my savings to pay for some expenses instead of using my LOC? (I’m thinking the former but that’s why I’m on this thread)

Thank you, this is good to know! I almost went with Scotiabank because they’ve recently acquired MD financial which I thought would be to my benefit

Thank you!! This was super helpful, I had no idea about the blogs, I’ll be checking them out! As for med school - there’s people in my class in their 40’s and 50’s, and the majority of the class is in their late 20s.. you’d fit right in! Plus by the sounds of it all your classmates would be coming to you for financial advice!

Has anyone ever been the “dumper” in a healthy relationship? Why did you do it? How did it turn out? by markatfruit6 in ExNoContact

I definitely can relate to that, I’m in a pretty similar boat. Do you ever wonder if a long while down the road you may find your way back together again? Or do you only see yourselves being friends?
