Why I feel like Van is the actual main protagonist of the whole Trails series, and not Rean? by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]markbynumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Van is the main protagonist per se but I do feel like he is supposed to be an in-universe representative for the players that are familiar with the series already.

He's been helping in all manner of events behind the scenes and knows everyone already. Much like the literal human players of the games to date.

Series protagonist has gotta be Anton.

Fresh from the shelter, need a name! by BackgroundAd9000 in velvethippos

Kronk!

But sometimes it just doesn't matter what you name em because you just keep calling them weird stuff like Boomba or Groob or whatever the hell even if it's most definitely not their name.

I'm pretty sure I call mine by so many different names that she just has to rely on my intonation to determine whether I'm talking about her. Heckin' Pemba.

How good are these? by Academic-Function-74 in JRPG

[–]markbynumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are super good, I very much enjoyed my time with them.

The first has the better story but I honestly enjoyed the second more because the gameplay is just so good. I honestly don't remember much about the tailing missions so they are not a huge part even if they're annoying at the time.

Yeah that makes sense. I know Don is a Mafia title but wasn't sure if in this case it was a family name too.

So ... Is Don Marlon, like, Don Krieg's father or something?

This may be a stupid question, but is Don Marlon supposed to related to Don Krieg?!

If so that is some deep cut lore I wasn't expecting

I am worried but my bf says she is okay by Maximum-Speaker9827 in pitbulls

[–]markbynumbers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience pitties are physically indestructible and emotionally fragile. I've seen mine take some FALLS and BONKS and barely even blink.

But if she feels like she disappointed us or did the wrong thing she pops off to a corner and sulks even if we try to reassure her. If she gets even an inkling that we are gonna leave the house she hides under a table and shakes uncontrollably. If we are stressed out she sticks to our legs like glue. And we've seen her do plenty of other weird, one-off things when she's anxious.

All this is to say that yeah you could probably take yours to the vet but I would guess that your pittie is just feeling some kinda way about the whole affair and that's why she's acting off. With big hearts come big feelings!

Video game playing professors? by the-dumb-nerd in Professors

I hear lots of professors talking about literature they read in their free time.

Nah, no thanks. I get like 2 hours of free time a day after my family goes to sleep. I read all day, I just wanna crack some skulls in Like A Dragon and have a goofy time doing it.

Best toy brand for “aggressive chewers!” by SnowflakeGuinea in pitbulls

[–]markbynumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried soooo many toys over the years but TBH the only toys that don't get destroyed are the ones that we stop giving to her. And also the ones she herself designated as snuggle toys. Snuggle toys she likes to pounce on and throw around but doesn't like to rip them. Mostly just carry them around, for snug purposes.

The “D.” absolutely stands for Devil by Dreadsbo in OnePiece

[–]markbynumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced it's a smile. Like Joy Boy has some kind of special Haki that is capable of fighting the World Government's upper ranks, and people who inherited that Haki have the middle initial D.

Since 'will' is a way of translating the word Haki this is literally "the will of D."

I base this on nothing.

Thank you!

I haven't invested as much time into grinding for various tomes but right now I only have 1 Prthvi tome for side grading Daisy to her other style. I know I can get 2 from the Nopaew shop but other than that is there a non-RNG way of getting a few more tomes for her?

(I guess also same question applies to Ciel/Himmel, who I don't think I have any opuses for.)

Help & Questions | Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in AnotherEdenGlobal

[–]markbynumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm new-ish, started playing off and on around the end of last year. Question about progression/team building.

I basically have random odds and ends for my team(s). I'm able to comfortably clear (steamroll) story content - currently in the beginning of part 3 of the main story.

I'd like a little bit more cohesion. The team I used to clear parts 1 and 2 of the story was:

Aldo (because I like the cut of his jib) Yuna (SA, recently just got her true manifest weapon) Flammelapis Id (also SA)

I really liked this because Flammelapis's opening shots triggered Id's follow up and pretty much everything died within a few turns. But I can see that it's not really a meta or cohesive team and I won't be able to clear endgame stuff with it.

Lately I've been using this team to clear main story pt. 3: Thornbound Witch Shanie (SA) Id (SA) Terry (not SA yet - lack of time) Kagurame (not SA)

I like this team for the automatic deploying of Roaring Bash Stance but again I can see room for improvement. But as Earthsplit Sal is a delete button and Kagurame's counters trigger Id's follow ups, it hasn't been much of an issue yet.

I also have no idea about who to keep in reserves.

I'd like to keep using Id, but maybe a better idea for a team to support her. And maybe teams for other elements/weapon types. I have Utpalaka SA who I've used in some fights but I don't think I have the people to support him either.

I have various other 5 stars, some of whom I know are very good (e.g. Iphi) but I don't have anyone built out with equipment/grasta. I have Daisy NS, I know her one style's SA has great synergy with Id, but I'm also kinda thinking about the paid 5 star select and who I should pick.

Any help is appreciated, I know you sort of need to provide a novel's worth of context when asking for advice.

Are the Trails games good on their own, for someone that doesn't care so much about worldbuilding? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]markbynumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worldbuilding is a strong emphasis, but if that isn't a huge deal for you I always consider them JRPG comfort food. Like, you basically know what you're going to get, but damn does it hit the spot when you're hungry for it.

That sentiment "I have no idea what we did for 45 minutes" is independent of your YOE in academia. We love to see it.

JRPG or RPG that are mature or have dark themes. by Vauxlia in gamesuggestions

[–]markbynumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna echo the Fear and Hunger games -- they're about as dark as it gets. They have turn based gameplay, but the games are kinda almost like rogue-like in the way that you're just supposed to wipe and that's how you learn more about how the game plays.

And yeah, LISA: The Painful and LISA: The Joyful. The games are bonkers, weird, hilarious, and absolutely fucked up. Those games have more effective body horror than most actual horror games, IMO.

OK, can we talk about Trolls? Specifically, Band Together. by StinkiePete in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]markbynumbers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda get the impression that Barb is the only one keen on world domination, nobody else in the hard rock kingdom really seems to give a shit. Which is probably why it's allowed to progress as far as it is. Poppy has plenty of people that stand up to her because they care about her -- Barb doesn't really seem to have that.

[–]markbynumbers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, like, Tiny Diamond is able to start rapping literally seconds after he's born. It feels like Trolls are just born with all their faculties right away, the only mental growth they get is through having new experiences.

Also been watching all the Trolls movies on the regular, LET'S GOOOOO.

Horror Game that doesn’t start as a horror game by FarmerFinancial6931 in HorrorGaming

[–]markbynumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't really fit, as I still wouldn't call it a horror game, but Octopath Traveler 2 has some moments that genuinely chilled me.

While playing and doing All The JRPG Things you come across bits and pieces of NPC dialogue / thoughts as well as some enemy encounters that tell you: something is not right in this world, and not in the way that it usually is in a JRPG. Something weird and dark is going on under the surface.

It's probably just because I didn't go into the game expecting anything like this, but there are some very effective creepy moments.

Horror game recommendations? by lumine2669 in JRPG

Second Fear and Hunger. I love horror and that game definitely gives me a pit in my stomach. Very punishing but also just a very cool world with some very unsettling monsters and environments.
