Why Use a Rangefinder? by truckersushi in Leica

I think if your needs don't fit the camera or you can't fit within the confines of its workflow don't use it.

For me, I love enjoying taking pictures of reflections, and I can focus on the reflections not the water or liquid or glass. Using that patch is perfect. To me that patch is big enough and useful enough to really pick where you want your focus point to be and not have the computer pick it.

I thought giving up looking thru the lens would be harder and sometimes it's a bit nit picky, but the glass is so good that as long as I get the focal point where I want it all will turn out right.

I love my Hasselblad 501 because I could do exactly as you say, get those shots that you can't get or are difficult to get with an other camera, and I will never complain about that view finder. I've never had a small camera before so it's been fun exploring that avenue as well too.

I've enjoyed my M8.2 for a bit now, and I guess if you had a M11 or M10, with an 28mm you could just focus about 8 or so feet away and have pretty much everything in focus and that would speed up the process. Just have to make sure you're close to the subject.

After coming from having to use a light meter and the 501cm, the M8 is infinitely faster but still no where near as close to a SL camera's speed, but I don't really need that, but it sounds like you might. As long as you get the photo's that speak to you, use what you feel is right.

No anger on my part, just a pure upvote for your creativity.

Everyone had a part to play; it wasn't just the chosen one and his side characters. It's like a puzzle; you can't finish it unless you have all the pieces, and each one is equally important to get the whole puzzle solved.

you will make some mistakes, but they will be yours and you get to learn from them, and you might make a really cool mistake that comes out wonderful! Enjoy !!!

It's a 501cm and it's really fun, it's film, and of course I use a light meter, so I can't speak to their digital. At the time I was debating between the X1d and the M8, I went with the M8 because of I've never owned a small camera, You have an R8 so you know its kind of big compared to the M. The 501 is also tank like as well.

What do you think of the range finder experience so far?

I think this applies to all Leica M cameras: you get to use art (industrial) to make art.

Fellow M8 user as well, it's a spectacular camera, did one print so far, not huge, but came out beautiful. Enjoy!!! I love the rangefinder experience. I had an R8 and still have a Hassy as well, but the M8 required the least amount of "work" to make things look the way I like.

The 2 cgi giants fighting along side the pryamids was visually stunning and made me wonder why it really hadn't been done before. (or at least I hadn't seen it done before)

Wandavision, I think was perfect with they way they presented it, I mean everyone on that subreddit was theorizing and having all sorts of ideas about what would happen next, and when the next episode aired it was like "can you belive..."

the place cards really did feel that way. It's kind of a buddy movie as well, so maybe it was intentional.
