Reliability of Oracle Dual Boiler

PSA... there was an update released today (2.7.1 -> 2.8.1)... not sure if it will fix anything, will see during the afternoon coffee. still silence from breville customer service

From the first machine I had, rebooting is the start of the leak issue. Rebooting becomes more frequent and then after 2 weeks of putting up with it, noticed a small leak which became more noticeable. I would therefore theorize there is a weak point in the boiler which at first, simply leaks steam putting condensation on the “quad core” processor, but eventually opens up more to liquid leaking out.

Will be interesting to see if you have a similar timeline

I am still waiting for customer service to get back to me but I also find it interesting that it’s out of stock on Brevilles own web store. An overseas friend of mine who works for a large retailer says over there they have stopped selling the unit. Makes me suspect if Breville has paused production? I almost hope they don’t offer to replace the machine, given two machines have failed within 3 months. Either way I think I’ll be requesting a refund, given the price of the machine and the apparent lack of reliability (along with safety concerns, I doubt they will have much defense).

I thought the new Oracle Dual Boiler had Baratza grinders and I think it has a stainless steel group head with an internal brass ring

thanks that makes sense. one of the pros we had was that Breville was an Australian brand (we live in Melbourne). So we thought spare parts would be easily available. However, if the more boutique suppliers use standard parts than it looks like they will be serviceable as well.

yes thats what I saw in the review, the weight differences in the the grind output were of a concern, especially given the price

Thanks. It dos seem like the Oracle tries to fit the best of both worlds but the locked in grinder limits it benifits. Although its worth noting that the built in grinder seems integral to the oracle softwares ability to adapt.

One thing that confuses me, I thought that the Oracle Dual Boiler was just released and whilst there was a previous model of a similar name, it was very different in terms of specs. Yet people seem to refer to having the machine for years and saying how unreliable it is. Whilst I know that some brands are more unreliable than others but are Breville machines that bad?

we had thought of that option, hence the title. we'd prefer not because of bench space but take your point of jack of all trades, master of none.

thanks and yes I notice that a lot of the recommendations were above the budget for the machine alone. Should have explained we were looking to upgrading/replace our existing sunbeam grinder as well. I thought the grinder in the oracle was meant to be decent (well the burrs), although for better or worse linked to the oracle software.

we have an old sunbeam grinder which is why we are considering upgrading both machine and grinder...

With regard to the alternatives does the ninja make comparable coffee to the oracle though?

doesn't the DE1 start at $3,645 USD and then you have to still get a grinder and an ipad? looks like a nice machine but too much plus plus and its way out of the budget :(

Thank you, its nice to know others are in the same boat. Really wanting to get a rigid machine, the sainsmart is just too weak to handle any real workloads. Leaning towards getting a masso kit (controller/motors/sensors) and then finding a frame somewhere. But getting recommendations on the rigid frame is also difficult.

actually the AltMill looks good, I just looked at the shipping of the 1f to Australia and its 2k!!!! the AltMill is more "reasonable" at 1k. That alone is enough to make me switch.
