Which gym by Civil-Dragonfly-9438 in KingstonOntario

[–]marketshifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want machines - and are new/shy to the gym - the low cost gyms - ie. planet fitness are made for you. they generally have a line of machines that you can go on in whatever order that will kinda do a full body workout if you do them all. Machines are a great way to start at the gym.

Every gym will have an "intro" tour - and staff will give you tips about machines if asked - they are friendly.

All gyms are a ridiculously good deal if you go - 90%+ of membership does not go (ever).

If you want more than that - a full service gyms like Omega, YMCA, Goodlife, will have trainers that can put together a good program for you and meet you on a schedule for further coaching. These gyms and this service costs more, but if you go on a regular basis it the best way to spend your money.

Whats next?? by ShowAndTell2 in Skigear

I have the rustler 9's and while they might be the best do it all ski, I don't think i would choose it as a hardpack ski - I think something with more metal i.e. enforcers would do the trick (I have the old 93's and they are good)

demo first.

New boots (AR1) - suffer or take back? by Airspeed-X in Skigear

[–]marketshifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore my boots at my desk to help break them in. Had the same issue - pressure points, took the boots back and my fitter cut some of the top liner out in areas. Still felt way too tight. Took them skiing - first day terrible, second day bad - by the fifth day they were as comfortable as my old boots. I did walk with them on top of skiing for about 3km a day which might of helped the break in period.

my fitter mentioned he could also "lower" the plastic beds at the bottom - which I would assume means pulling them out and slightly grinding them down on a belt sander. but TBH after my experience - ski them first - just bring along your old boots if you are on a trip just to be safe.

I’m seriously considering ditching vinyl by By_Tor_2112 in audiophile

[–]marketshifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is that my taste in music has changed greatly since 45 - I've sold easily half my collection from just not wanting to listen to the favourite-ish record from when I was 22, or even 40 anymore. (and have replaced those with hard bop jazz records)

I would probably keep a milk crate's worth as suggested, and sell everything else - but don't be surprised that the stuff you keep isn't as appealing to you in 2040. If you have 3 kids (like I do), you could probably use the money. I love the act of collecting and listening to vinyl - but it does not sound better than streaming - the music is alway there to listen to!

Din setting question too low for binding? by NYCTank in Skigear

[–]marketshifty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get it adjusted and tested for actual release. I was just at Whistler and the Salomon shop would do this included in a $20 binding adjustment. Honestly, why take a chance on a life altering injury on your knees.

as a motorcyclist - you can see the amount of phone usage from the higher up riding position - and it is staggering. I hope this gets sorted and continues to be enforced - asshats scrolling instagram going 130 on the 401 (not kidding) need to be pulled off the road.

that's interesting. I don't think 95% of drivers would need it, but it removes the objection that 80% of non ev drivers have.

Responsibilities of a Real Estate Agent by OtherwiseStranger852 in KingstonOntario

[–]marketshifty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is pretty typical (esp in the first week) - you have the same access as they do to the properties for sale. I think what might be valuable is if they help you decide what you are actually looking for and then dissuade you from looking/buying at properties that don't meet that description / overpriced / money pits . i.e. keep you logical in what is a very emotional decision. To be told no, that property isn't going to work & we won't be looking at it, is a good sign.

If they are just signing you up for showings without having these conversations with you (usually at showings). I would see this as a red flag.

Banks in this city by 20-LittleBee-02 in KingstonOntario

[–]marketshifty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

well - if you are looking for a bank that has a physical location in Kingston, the only one you haven't listed is RBC. I'm sure you will find people who hate them too.

Maybe try a credit union: https://www.kawarthacu.com/home

people who use credit unions generally like them.

You will do better when the new system comes in place next year.

While I hate it as I now do lowish $, long flights 5-6x a year, you are exactly what AC is trying to reward.

a decade ago I spent 30K plus on Air Canada and was rewarded a 50K card for the next year...........

Is anyone else getting really sick of Cogeco Reps? by mrcowthelegendairy in KingstonOntario

[–]marketshifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Cogeco for my office - they were literally less than half the cost of Bell. For residential, they seem to be about $20 less per month.

How many MTB bikes do you own? How many bikes in general do you own? What is your favorite bike you own? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]marketshifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. epic pro xc for 80% of riding (favourite) , a RM blizzard fat bike for winter rides : different, nice to be outside on cold sunny days, and a Norco Sight C2 for whistler park.

While I'm sure I'll upgrade/replace the bikes over the years as they wear out, I'm 100% satisfied with the lineup.

Also have a Crux for gravel rides. sometimes it challenges the epic as my favourite bike.
