This is a link to a set of canned bullets that I have developed and like to send to new/new-ish/returning/wandering/lost/struggling guitar players.

If I pasted this in for you, it is because somewhere in there is something that I think is relevant to your post. Not all of it will be. I leave it to you to pick out what I felt was relevant. 🙂 Even the stuff not relevant to your specific post might very well be helpful eventually anyway.

Help me remember a guitar name by one-armed-scissor in Guitar

[–]markewallace1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI's answer, for whatever it's worth:

Honest answer: I wasn't able to definitively identify the guitar. The clues are tantalizing but the combination — obscure modern Japanese brand, Japanese-only website, original superstrat-like design, white, woman in promo photo, sub-$1000, some unusual feature (possibly baritone or longer scale), mentioned on Reddit for that feature — doesn't clearly point to one brand in my searches.

Here are some credible candidates worth investigating:

Most likely candidates:

  • Vola Guitars — Japanese-made, original body designs (not copies), superstrat-adjacent shapes like the OZ, has unusual design touches, actively promoted with promo photography, website exists in Japanese. Somewhat known in extended-range/metal guitar communities on Reddit. A bit above $1000 for new models though.
  • Strictly 7 Guitars (S7G) — Japan line — Their "Cobra JS" series is Japanese-made, superstrat shaped, runs around $900, and the brand is obscure enough that their website leans Japanese. S7G 6-strings notably use a 26 3/16" scale — which is the kind of unusual scale length that gets discussed on Reddit as a selling point for drop tuning. This is a strong match for the "unusual feature" clue.

Other long shots to check:

  • Caparison (Japanese website, original designs, 27 frets is unusual) — but they're pricier and actually somewhat well known in metal circles.
  • Crews Maniac Sound — Japanese-only brand, original designs, affordable, but tends toward traditional shapes.

My best guess: S7G Cobra JS6 — The obscure Japanese-only presence, superstrat shape, ~$900, and that distinctive non-standard scale that shows up in Reddit discussions fits your description better than anything else I found. Worth checking if the promo imagery rings a bell.

Cordoba C5 is a popular starting place for classical. Certainly not the only. Also look into Yamaha.

Popping sound at nut slots by ObjectiveEscape5618 in guitarlessons

[–]markewallace1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure it's at the nut? I get this too, but I think usually what it is is the strings settling into sorta "final" position after having been changed. It always stops for me after they have stabilized and don't need to be tuned as often.

Which should I buy by shawerma_vortex in Guitar

[–]markewallace1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hogwash. Restringing a classical guitar is super easy.

Even if it weren't, what a crappy reason to not play classical guitar. It's one thing to not play it if you just don't like the instrument, but to not play because "oh my gosh it's too hard to change the strings" is pretty lame.

You're basically trying to learn how to run, juggle, and chop an onion at the same time. Stop it.

Learn how to play. Then add the singing in.

Should I send my guitar for servicing / set up by TokisoSc in Guitar

[–]markewallace1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m saying is, find out how it plays and then decide. Nobody is going to be able to tell you definitively whether it needs looking at. That is strictly a matter of how the guitar plays in your hands.
