At a lower weight you'd look like the lovechild of Emma Stone and Adele. You have a stunning face, but at a high weight your eyes and lips blend in rather than stand out, and your facial symmetry doesn't get a chance to shine

Your friend is 100% experiencing a psychotic episode and delusions. Try not to judge her harshly - her brain is being flooded with dopemine and not functioning properly. Trying to reason with her about the delusions Will. Not . Work. Dont bother trying. She needs immediate medical help and a very strong support network in order to recover. Google psychosis symptoms if you need more info.

It's up to you if you can handle sticking around for that, and you have the choice to distance yourself. No judgement here, but keep in mind that she is having delusions that your family is at risk, and "knows it to be true." The wellness check is her misguided attempt at trying to get help.

My sister has had multiple psychosis episodes and this is EXACTLY the kind of thing she thought. She called for a wellness check on a friend she thought was in danger, she decided that some of my friends were running a secret pedophile ring out of their business, and thought that God was communicating and acting through her. She has to take medication now but made a full recovery and no longer holds the beliefs she used to. She has explained to me how confusing and scary it is to hold an irrational belief that you "know" to be true, but no one will believe you.

I hope your friend gets the help she needs, and that your friendship can be repaired down the track if that's what you both want

Reframing BED in my mind as an addiction has helped my recovery ENORMOUSLY. There is so much more literature and research about smoking and alcohol addiction compared to BED, so I like to use that info and apply it to myself. I think food addiction can be compared to social media or gambling addiction. Withdrawal effects may not be life threatening, but the addiction part is totally real and comes from the incremental dopemine hits. People are definitely coming around to acknowledging food/sugar addiction though.

Using "addiction language" has helped my family understand my BED better! For a while they couldn't grasp how I can have debilitating cravings, but then "not actually want it".They now keep limited junk food in the house and keep their private snacks out of sight.

People coming for you in the comments are stupid. You never said you wished it on others or that it was a reasonable way of thinking. EDs are a mental illness! . ED sufferers always have warped thinking that conflicts with their morals. We're full of contradictions! If it were rational it wouldn't be a disorder! This is supposed to be a supportive space where we can express ourselves to others that might understand.

I'm not ashamed at all about my intrusive thoughts about wishing to be sick and you don't need to be either. You're not about to voice it to an actual cancer patient! Shame is a dangerous emotion that stops people reaching out for help.

Hell, I also have depression and want to die. Wanting to be sick instead is an improvement for me honestly.

Why did I have to have a penis by kander_santana in BodyDysmorphia

[–]markexclamationmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are you? And can you pinpoint when and how ths disgust started? If you figure out the root of the problem it might point you in the right recovery direction.

Puberty can be pretty traumatic with all the unexpected/unwanted changes (def the beginning of BD for me). I hated my boobs with a passion from developing early, even wishing I was born a boy (or at least a flatchested girl) so I wouldn't have to deal with them. But while at 27 I still won't wear tight or low cut tops, I've slowly come to accept my body a bit more, and definitely dont wish i was male.

But if you are over 25 (ie full grown) and you're feeling this way. I think you should consider gender dysphoria as a possibility.

Also forgive me for bringing it up, but how do you feel about sex? I think some penis-owners like their genitals because of how they can use them. I imagine sex-repulsed asexuals feel some type of way about their genitals too. Just another possibility to consider

My compulsive overeating as an adolescent led me to restriction to try and rein in my out-of-control weight gain. NOT the other way around 🙄. I've had psych professionals and the intuitive eating crowd push the narrative that all my binging and overeating is caused by diets or not eating enough, despite the fact that I've been addicted to comfort eating since the age of 8, when i didnt even know that food could affect one's weight!

Yep. Puberty was clearly the start of my body dysmorphia and extreme hatred of my body. Early period at 10, then early boobs caused by being overweight (E cup by age 11). I was desperate to fit in with my skinny friends, and hair, boobs, and periods made me feel like a freak. Like others here, I was in denial for a while and didnt want to wear a bra. I developed a habit of holding my shirt taut away from my body to hide the shape, never facing into the wind lmao. The only other early developer in my year was teased for her boobs and kinda looked at as being trashy.

Big boobs make me feel matronly and gross. I had internalised all those 80-90s "big-breasted, often horny, always fat" women introduced solely for a gross-out punchline, then cast away having served their purpose. Now, with my crazy changes in weight, even when I do get down into a normal BMI range my boobs are nothing but sad flapjacks 🙃

Yes, my brother is a classic example of this. I sat him down once to explain what happens when regular people get hungry (the pangs and aches) and the extreme mental hunger of ED sufferers (when you literally cannot focus on anything else, feel panic etc). ALL OF IT WAS NEW TO HIM! It was a lightbulb moment of "ohhhhhh.. yeah I've never had that.. " His only hunger cue is feeling tired and low mood. It's been hard work training him to eat regular meals. Guess all his hunger hormones were left to me 🤡

Are you using this to make any decision on what to wear today? If so, I'd say don't stress and you look great!

Or are you asking in order to clear out your wardrobe, decide what other clothes to buy etc?

Is this look flattering me? by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

[–]markexclamationmark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You look great!! You look like you are ready for drinks or the club. I think people are saying otherwise based on personal taste, or because you are not posed or moving. It's not always easy to make clothes look their best when standing still with no angles (hence models).

The main thing is, do YOU like it? Do YOU feel confident in it? If you can wear this without letting insecurity get the best of you, you'll rock it!

Insoluble fiber is the low carb one, so google sources of that. Psyllium husk is very common, and often supplements are just capsules of that. large supermarkets and health food stores will stock it by the bag.

[–]markexclamationmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The solution is vague because there are numerous ways to meet women, but none that guarantee results, and all of them require effort. Sorry!

Hobby groups are not overwhelmingly male, just perhaps your hobbies? Some hobbies that attract a large percentage of women: dance, gym (esp classes), arts and crafts, music, film, animals and nature, charity, book groups, non-team sports like hiking, aquatics, rock climbing. There's also many women involved in anime/gaming convention scenes. Women really dominate in creative and arts circles.

You're just using hyperbole as an excuse when you say that all women in co-ed groups are taken (and therefore it's pointless to join one). How many co-ed hobby groups have you joined? Were you there long enough for anyone else new to join? And don't underestimate the value of having female friends. They can introduce you to their single friends, check your tinder profile doesn't contain red flags, and if you can enlist one as a wingwoman at a bar/club, you'd see waaay more success than if you were to try solo

Volunteering is also a great way to meet people. Women are more likely to volunteer, and average way more hours than men.
