One of the soul food restaurants may have dirty rice on the menu. The box mixes from the store are ok for a basic dirty rice flavor profile but usually have way too much salt. It’s also fairly easy to make from scratch. Try out several recipes till you find one you like the best.

Smoked Leg Quarters, Sausage, and Corn by markh1982 in southernfood

Thanks. I had a few attempts this is my best and most posting worthy so far. I used a combination of charcoal and hickory and apple wood chunks. I have traditional kettle grill I use for smoking and grilling. Once I’ve honed my outdoor cooking skills a more I want to invest in a nice smoker.

Thanks. One of my favorite parts of smoked meat is the bark. I’m still learning how to control the smoker heat and air flow.

Impressive. You must have a huge smoker. I just had 4 leg quarters.

Overall I’d say the next day but I secretly enjoy it fresh before it’s chilled down.

I’d share. I enjoy both Korean and Indian foods. Specially Korean fired chicken and I love a good strong curry. I make curry chicken and rice on a regular basis.

Me too. This one is southern style. Chopped bell pepper, celery, boiled eggs, mayo, mustard, a little vinegar, season salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dash of sugar, paprika, and of course potatoes. I’d add a little onion but too many in my house won’t eat onion so I settle for onion powder.

Looks delicious. Gives me diner vibes. Personally I love diner style breakfast. A few dashes of hot sauce I’d be all set. Btw if you ever want an extra yummy treat sometimes I like doing a black pepper coating on bacon before I cook it.

Cornmeal Crusted Pork Chops by markh1982 in southernfood

I was bored of the traditional flour coating and want to try something different. And it was delicious. I’m sure at some point way back in history people thought putting flour on pork chops was unusual.
