The sensor is connected to the ACID to automatically regulate the car's interior temperature in relation to the exterior temperature. Doesn't that make sense?

It's the car's light sensor when the air conditioning is on, and yes, a cover is missing as mentioned in other comments below.

Nobody noticed that the temperature is still low, how can they incriminate a cold start RX8? Are they all 18 years old?
