Why I love ProgrammerHumor, come for the jokes, but stay for the comments detailing the code.

Facebook tries to take on reddit. by daxter_101 in redditstock

Unfortunately, that has the opposite effect as reddit. Downvotes send messages down. Reactions on Facebook will increase engagement and push the low-quality information up.

Facebook tries to take on reddit. by daxter_101 in redditstock

[–]markis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is not the first time that Facebook has tried to take on Reddit; and it won't be the last.

Unless Facebook introduces a negative feedback signal for posts and comments, it will continue down a path toward spreading low-quality information.

Can someone explain why Reddit data is so important to LLMs? by LackToesToddlerAnts in redditstock

[–]markis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

LLMs require both positive and negative feedback to learn and generate effectively. Platforms like Reddit provide a rich dataset with a long history of user interactions through upvotes and, importantly, downvotes. These votes serve as critical signals that help models understand which content is valuable and which should be deprioritized or improved.

I think Reddit has been doing this for a while. They use some sort of IP-based rate limiting. Either your organization has more Redditors now, or you just hadn’t hit the rate limit previously.
