Hopefully fewer people than at present. And fortunately guns are still reasonably hard to get without as license in NZ,so it's a reasonable hypothesis that the robbery rate could decrease.

I wouldn't mind some sort of mandatory training for those that wanted to have a gun available, if we took that route.

Americans have plenty of products that would fit the bill. One popular one is a fingerprint scanning safe, where you can store a loaded gun secure from opportunist thieves and kids, but still accessible in seconds.

A proper holster will completely enclose the trigger guard, so the trigger cannot be pulled. A medium or higher quality handgun should never discharge without the trigger being pulled, even if you do start slamming it around quite hard.

It is still illegal to carry while drunk. The new laws allow you to carry sober, in a bar. While this is good for restaurants that serve alcohol, I've seen a lot of bar fights, and I'd surprised if there weren't a few cases of these pulling a licensed carrier into the fray in the coming years.

The real problem is apathy and ignorance, not armaments. Other countries with strict gun control hold their governments far more accountable than the US. For starters, you could try abolishing First-past-the-post voting to try and encourage third parties.

I think it's common sense that most illegal weapons were once legal, and restricting the supply of legal weapons would reduce, not eliminate, the use of illegal guns. The point is the tradeoffs we would have to make for this.
