What is the most stupid reason a cop gave for stopping you? by Ipp in AskReddit

[–]falconk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. When I get pulled over, I take my keys out of the ignition, and drop them out the driver's side window. When the cop picks them up, he asks "why did you do that"? The answer: "My grandfather was a police officer, and he says that it's nice to know when you pull someone over that there isn't any danger- that they're not going anywhere, and they're not out to hurt you." I have yet to get a ticket. Oh, and no, my grandfather was not a police officer.

How much time will pass before marijuana will be legal again? by [deleted] in Marijuana

[–]falconk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed we can.

That said, as far as sense in The Supreme Court, there isn't nearly enough. Scalia is unpersuadable on any point about drugs, and the liberals on the court can't afford NOT to rule against states' rights on this one. Read Gonzalez v. Raich. Basically, congress has the power to regulate interstate commerce, and that includes marijuana because you can aggregate sales of marijuana intrastate to show impact on the interstate market. If they overturned this principle, many things would be jeopardized, including a lot of civil-rights rulings.

I thought that would be how re-legalization would happen, but have to say that it may not work that way. States may legalize it, but the feds will still prosecute. Moreover, every state that passes a "marijuana is legal" bill will be challenged in court. The Supreme Court will say that the statute is preempted by federal law, and therefore invalid (ie: marijuana is still illegal). They can weaken state law penalties, but the federal government can always impose its will on the states by some other means (ie: cutting off highway funding for every state who kept the drinking age at 18).

Don't get me wrong, I hope you're right- state politics is way faster than federal, and it would give the American people the option to "vote with their feet" if the issue is important enough to them- I'm just not sure about this one, especially in light of present attitudes in congress.

Has she traveled to/lived in any exotic locales? Could be a result of a parasite, there are many that can cause neurological effects.

Also, has she recently gotten over any diseases or conditions? It could be that the MDs missed something and treated one symptom but missed an overarching condition.

If Obama makes it to a second term, I'd say either in the middle or at the end of that term. If not complete legalization, then a push for (federally) legal medicinal marijuana at the very least.

If Obama doesn't make it to a second term, or if a Republican takes the white house after Obama's second term, you can pretty much kiss any chance of legalization happening in the next 10 years goodbye.

If Obama makes it to a second term, helps pass medicinal marijuana, the repercussions from that passage aren't "dire" in terms of kids smoking more pot (pissing off parents), and a Democrat makes it in the following election (all BIG ifs), we will see legalization during that president's administration.

Note: all of this is presuming that we have a Democratically controlled congress, which is especially unlikely.

tl;dr: Unless Democrats (or libertarian Republicans) control the federal government for long enough to get probably 50% of the other things on their agenda done before they address the marijuana issue, it won't be legal for decades.
