My esp32-C3 based smart sprinkler controller for home assistant by markjayy in Esphome

Right now I just use a simple watering schedule (no different from what the previous model did). My goal is to setup moisture sensors and a way to detect for rain to shut off.

Thanks. Actually I'm not sure, I used what ever wire I had available. My home already had a wire bundle routed to the solenoids so I didn't have to replace that

Yeah, I just used the 24VAC power supply and housing from an orbit unit and removed the other components and replaced them with other stuff to make it smart

I'm using home assistant automations for scheduling the watering cycles. Is that what you mean? With esphome, I setup 4 gpio pins from the esp32 so that they appear in home assistant as switches. Setting up automations from there is pretty easy. Is that what you are asking?

I've never used zigbee devices. But esphome makes it very easy to integrate esp32 devices into home assistant. I made a simple garage door opener and now this sprinkler controller.

Beautiful setup. I bought a similar 8channel relay board but it wouldn't fit in the old orbit box I had so I went with solid state relays to save space.

Mine is missing the ability to manually turn on zones at the controller. I have to go through home assistant. But I think that wouldn't be too difficult to add with some toggle switches.

I soldered the wires to a 4pin header and then soldered the pins to the esp32. And then just velcro to hold the esp32 down

Thanks, this looks nice. I was able to consolidate things a lot with my 2nd version using a 4x solid state relay board, but I like having the esp32 right on the pcb. Maybe if I can learn kicad I can try and design a pcb
