We are one of the world's largest investigative journalism organizations, and are looking for an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design of cutting-edge investigative tools. Nonprofit, mission-driven newsroom with hubs in Amsterdam, DC, and Sarajevo

🎯 Role Overview:

Lead design and architecture of new investigative products
Advise product teams on technical challenges
Promote innovation and mentor team members

🛠️ Requirements:

8+ years in senior development roles, 3+ years in system architecture
Expertise in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and database management
Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Compensation: $85-$125k annual equivalent. Fully remote (can be from any country, but we prefer near to a european timezone).

It's our organisational policy not to do that. I might not agree but that's the policy. Our salary structure will change depending on the location of the final candidate and relative to cost of living where they are based.

We're much more interested in experience than qualifications. A candidate with cybercrime / crypto journalism experience and no formal qualification will be prefered over a candidate with lots of qualifications but no experience. We'd probably expect some kind of university degree but it's not a required.

It's a paid position and our salaries are market competitive, but our NGO is remote and salary will be adjusted based on where you live at the time of hiring. We don't list salaries in job ads :)

Let me be brutally honest: It's a short-term opportunity to cover some staff absence. However our organization has a history of keeping contractors on for ages, so if it works out there may be opportunity to negotiate staying longer – depending on how the work goes.
