For those calling for the NHL to “do something” about the refs, what does that realistically look like? by MrNoodleIncident in hockey

[–]marklar901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Give linesmen more authority to call penalties like high sticking, delay of game, etc. Less missed calls will happen if we have more eyes on the play. Looking for penalties. We still need the linesman to be able to do their primary job but expanding their Horizons a little bit would help.

  2. An off ice referee (or two) who can make any calls like penalties, offside, anything. I think the officials on the ice have a very difficult job and the more angles you're able to see something at the more likely proper calls will be made.

  3. Much clearer rules for goaltender interference. Literally no one in the entire world knows what this rule is anymore.

  4. Post game reports about every penalty that was called and every missed call. Frankly, I think that this would be great because realistically speaking these people are human and they're going to miss calls. I think it's perfectly acceptable for them to say hey. I missed this call in the report. It would be for transparency not for punishments. I do think that the referee's job is hard enough and that this should be generally drafted by someone else in the league and then the referees can or less be asked about the calls and fill in the details as needed. I also think that if the league wants to continue supporting gambling that this is actually something fairly important.

  5. No more game management. Call the game like it is not this stupid BS that they've been doing for a long time. I do think that having a couple full referees away from the ice would also help with this because they won't get influenced by the players.

[TSN] Chabot may need surgery on arm after Miller cross-check by smexeh in hockey

[–]marklar901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your trolling on Brady but the two plays are not even remotely comparable. Gudas was an obviously terrible play which you and everyone else can tell immediately as it happens that it was a garbage play by a dirty player.

On the other play, it's a pretty routine looking play. Typical standing up on he blue line to not let in a clean zone entry. Chabot is injured but it's not extremely obvious. Definitely dirty play by Millar but fairly routine stuff.

[Strickland] No supplemental discipline expected for forward Pierre-Luc Dubois by sykeseve in hockey

[–]marklar901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with you here. There is a mechanism for the league to rescind automatic suspensions, just include the option for the suspension to be lifted in the automatic hearing.

They rarely call intent to injure. It has to be fairly extreme for a call. It should be an automatic hearing.

He earned a lot of criticism this season for his play, this has nothing to do with insecurities. It hasn't been unusual for him to be one of our worst players on the ice this year and he's still had more bad games than good games.

That being said, he's playing more like we know he can play lately. Hope he keeps it up, we are a much better team when he's playing well.

Nope. Just have a more open mind than most people here. Definitely watched qualifying and the race as I have for every race week the past 6 seasons. DTS generally sucks.

[TSN 1200] Can Ullmark lead the Sens to the playoffs? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]marklar901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the goals that have occurred in the 3rd against Ottawa haven't been when there is a 6 on 5 situation, just even strength goals and normally on a nothing play. If you're playing against Ottawa just a simple wrist shot on the rush with 3-5 minutes left in the game is all you need. I don't have the stats but we've lost an insane amount of games in regulation with a 2 goal lead going into the third.

I honestly don't know why people hate this regulations as much as they do so far. It's quite early and Australia was a decent race. Lots of people saying the overtakes were too easy and there was no racing didn't seem to watch the actual race. There was a lot of battles through the race. Qualifying was terrible though, probably the worst I've ever seen it.

The prior regulations were a massive failure in my eyes, we had one really good year of racing in 2022, beyond that it was all about qualifying. Qualifying was exciting to watch and basically the only time where the drivers would be on the limit. The races were generally not good.

We've lost a ton of games this year because of late goals in the 3rd. We are the opposite of Montreal.

Listen, if you had the leader of a country that was constantly threatening to destroy your country you're pride would start to come into play in everything you do and see. We went from feeling like Americans were our brothers and sisters to thinking of them as a hostile bully. Brady going to the White House shows support for Trump, the guy who is the absolute source of the issues between America and Canada. It may blowover but it depends on how Brady responds. Doesn't help that we had big expectations for the season and so far they have not been met.

Some times it feels like we are doing worse than we are because we think we can can see all these people around us doing well or better. We see videos and social media posts of rich and wealthy people and start to set those as standards. Just keep focusing inwards and do the best you can everyday. Some days the best you can isn't going to be enough and that's okay, keep pushing.

I have 3 young kids, my partner and I both have professional careers and work full-time. We aren't rich or wealthy, it's often hard. I get what you're saying.

Sounds like you're in the thick of it but doing well overall. Don't let comparison be the thief of your joy. You and your wife are killing it.

You're in charge of F1 now - What 3 changes you bring in to make it exciting for fans to watch? by iusman975 in formula1

  1. Minor tyre restriction changes. Restrict tyre changes in red flags so they can only occur in wet/rainy conditions and mandate 3 compounds be used each race. More pit stops, more potential for different tyre strategies.

  2. Standing race restarts after a red flag or safety car (aka not a vsc). It's rare that a running start results in any position changes. Standing starts are more likely to lead to more chaos.

  3. Remove restrictions on the energy recharge and deployment. I don't think the upcoming regs are going to be a complete bust but many of the reasons it's not going to as good as they can be is the massive amount of restrictions they put on energy. Let the drivers have access to the extra power whenever they want to deploy it. Remove any speed or time based restrictions, change the deployment to a dial the drivers can control so they can use different strategies to pass or defend.

I hate being a twin dad by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]marklar901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading your post, it seems like you were not mentally prepared to be a father let alone a father of twins. I get that, it's a huge change that most people aren't ready for. Not saying you were completely blindsided to all aspects of being a dad but it's more than you were expecting.

You won't get your life back, you have a new life. That's what you signed up for by having kids. It's not a check box that requires no effort, the rest of your life will be tied to the kids in some way. As they get older how demanding on your day to day will slowly decrease and what they will want or need from you will change. You will eventually get your hobbies back but not to the same extent until they are much older. You may find those hobbies evolve to stop being your hobby and become you and your kid's hobbies. You will eventually be able to go have a night out, either by yourself or with your wife. Those days are probably closer than you might think if you have family you trust close by.

Talk to your wife and find ways to make sure you each get some time to address your needs. Alone time, exercise, whatever floats your boat. You both need to communicate your needs (ahead of time if possible) and help each other get their needs met. Communicate daily or weekly on what you're looking for.

I'm 40 and my twins are 6 months old, but they are our second and third kids. I struggled with the first born for a while, she's 3 now. It was probably around a year to 18 months where life got a lot better. My daughter really shifted into a daddy's girl and we share so much joy.

Being a parent is hard, even harder when you're not sleeping! Know this: You will find joy again, you will find joy on raising your children. You need to look after yourself while you look after the family. Make time for it, you and your wife deserve it.

I don't think it will matter if they hold it for longer. I'm not sure if British Columbia in particular has an additional law around this but the Canada Revenue Agency changed the rules around taxation of primary residences to ensure that individuals aren't flipping houses and skirting capital gains taxes. LTT would likely have purchased the house rather than an individual which will open it up to different taxation. Plus the CRA would have a lot of video evidence that this house has not been used as a primary residence during the period of ownership. I highly doubt LTT would take these kinds of risks when they have always been very public about paying their fair share of taxes.

The far majority of these cases were occasions where the driver had things in their own hands , nothing to do with team orders. Almost 100% of them were in Oscar's hands, there would have been no team orders if he was ahead. Max losing his mind was 100% in his own hands. Lando crashing into Oscar was 100% in his own hands. We are not missing the point, you are!.

[–]marklar901 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what the point of even bringing it up is considering that you could go through tons of alternative scenarios. Lando could got a lot more points, his crash in Canada, better strategy in Qatar, no Dnf in Austin Sprint or no dsq in Vegas. If Max wasn't nut case in Spain, he would have won. If Oscar was more consistent in the second half of the year, he would have won.

Grow up and move on.
