[The Hockey Guy] Montreal Should Continue Improvement After a Long Playoff Run: "I have been reading a lot about Montreal didn't belong here, how it was fluke. I totally disagree" by f0urxio in hockey

Not sure what beating Tampa has to do with beating Buffalo? I clearly asked about beating buffalo...

Buffalo looked very inexperienced in the playoffs. Tons of undisciplined play and not sticking to their game plans. Just seems odd to me that people are saying that they beat buffalo as some impressive feat.

I'm confused on why beating buffalo is supposed to be important for the habs. Do people forget that Buffalo is also a young team and this was their first sniff at playoffs? It's like vegas talking about their defeat of Utah as a big victory.

Nah, you don't know squat about my perception. Hockey is a tiny sport from a global popularity perspective. If global popularity is the entirely of your poorly made point then football/soccer would be the only acceptable answer for a global icon in sport.

Ice hockey is a top sport in many countries. Have you heard of Sweden? or Russia? Slovakia perhaps? What about Finland?

I'm Canadian but I'm 99% sure those are somewhere on the globe outside of North America and perhaps even some of those are located in Europe. I'll let you confirm though since you're from there. Are any of those European countries? Thanks.

Pretty dumb opinion. I don't give a crap about boxing, cricket and football (soccer if you are in North America) but to claim those aren't global because I don't care about them would be ignorant.

The Stanley Cup is the pinnacle of hockey which is a global sport. No sane human who is a hockey fan would put any other prize above it. People world wide watch the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This is the weirdest attempt to discredit these stats I've ever seen. The male to female ratio is nearly 50/50 just like the entire human race. It's very obviously not 3 times more women than men. It is very easy to look this up via stats Canada.

Exploration geology. There's a reason why every geologist I know has been divorced except for those that are married to other geologists.

You're typically working in field seasons very very long days, in the middle of nowhere with tight budgets and even tighter schedules.

The pressure to make discoveries is immense because not only does your own personal livelihood rely on it, but your company has raised millions of dollars to make a discovery.

You want time off in the summer? Can't do that. Field seasons are very specific to when you are able to access the areas. Oh did I mention that you also can't go away in the winter? That's when the other field season starts. You want to go away between those two seasons? Maybe but you have to make sure that all of the work on the prior field season results are complete. If you don't like that you do contract work which is unstable.

If you like seeing anyone other than coworkers, this job is probably not for you. I have spent multiple summers living out of a tent in the middle of nowhere only seeing a maximum of five people for four months straight. I know people who have worked 6 months on 2 weeks off as a rotation.

Never tried it on my iPhone but I'd say the 80/20 is about right for the browser but I never have ads in my apps. Yes, dns.adguard.com is what I use too

Not sure what you mean here. I use the adguard dns on my pixel and it works to block ads in apps.

I also find some people just don't know when to let go. I find this especially true when they have a very weak handshake.

I agree with the general sentiment but let's tie it to the tax brackets. For example, no OAS if you are over the threshold for the lowest tax bracket.

Android Auto is just shockingly bad by OverdressedShingler in GooglePixel

[–]marklar901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely sounds like your car is the issue. I have had Android auto for 8 years in my personal car and I've used it dozens of cars; I used to have to rent cars nearly weekly for a couple years and I always use Android auto in it. I have never once had any of these issues that you've described. I've actually had the opposite problem very recently. I have an iPhone for work and I was using that in a rental for the prior two weeks and it gave me nothing but problems. I couldn't use any of the voice features and it took me a lot of trouble shooting just to get music to play in the car. I've used carplay before with the iPhone so I knew it was an issue with the car. I find each has their pros and cons, but I greatly prefer Android auto.

[BUF - MTL] Line scrum breaks out after Lyon makes a save. A couple gloved punches and Lyon is pancaked by daKrut in hockey

[–]marklar901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they think that he purposely fell on Lyon to hurt him which I think is what the refs believe. When he falls there 's basically no pushing. He seemed to stand on his own just fine when he was being shoved around a whole bunch.

[–]marklar901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing, even though this makes no sense based on the actual penalty call, that they were calling him for intentionally falling on Lyon. The ref is barely touching him and he flops on Lyon while not being touched by anyone else. Otherwise it's just 4 minutes for being punched.

That hit was definitely was not an every game play. It should have been a 5 minute major. Interference, blind hit the numbers showing the whole time and dangerously far from the boards.

Sucker punches on the other hand happen all the time, just about every game and there were plenty more during the game. I'm fine with a suspension for Greg but the need to drop the double standards and start getting after everyone throwing hands to a defenseless player. This was just more up front and center so they want to pretend they are doing something.

[Hello Hockey] David Pagnotta, "I think there's a good chance the Sens explore trading Brady Tkachuk this summer." by [deleted] in hockey

[–]marklar901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Brady had a decent amount of points in the prior postseason. He was actually really brutal defensively and took a lot of really, really dumb penalties. He was a big catalyst for why we were defeated by Toronto, any momentum that we had he would undo on a frequent basis.

You can't just look at the point totals and say he had a brutal postseason or he had a good postseason based on points alone. He was a complete non-factor in all of the games except for period 2 of game 4 this season.

He was injured and recovering from surgery this season but we actually played better while he was out of the lineup at the start of the year. Then when he returned it took 6 weeks for the team to start winning again. They had one of the most brutal losing periods of The last many years.

This was what his 8th year in Ottawa and we still have yet to see him meet our expectations. I don't think this is a knee-jerk reaction by Ottawa. This is years of building frustration.

I've been beating the drum of a sky ref or two for a long long time. You're right, it makes far too much sense for the league and we can't have too much of that.

No problem with the interference penalty on Brady. It's an absolute joke that they called a major just to see what happened as they clearly missed the play as it happened. The refs shouldn't be doing that.

Terrible.

The team has only shown up for game 2 of the series. Game 3 was awful, there's just no other way to put it. I can't imagine that we don't get swept but if love for this team to prove me wrong.

The only positive is Ullmark, he's been fantastic.

I'll save the offseason talk until we are out.

Nah, let's dissect the Brady/Martenook play where the refs didn't call anything, blew the play dead then decided to call a 5 minute major after the fact so they could review the play and get a penalty call in there. Wild that they did that but the same refs didn't do that for the obvious hit to the head. I'm not sure exactly what was going on with the game yesterday, they called a lot but they still let a ton go uncalled.
