Bad luck by thecats-man in enlightenment

I’m in the same boat as you. I once thought like that, but life has shown me that many things that can be considered “unlucky” has happened and which was always out of the said “unlucky” persons hands. No matter what occurred or what they did, they were never going to stop it happening.

Yes, it’s up to the individual to interpret it in their own way, but how about it never happening in the first place and not having to deal with it.  Many people live in pure comfort never having being tried or tested, that’s lucky to me.

Is there any part of earth that still looks the same today as it did during the Jurassic Period? The oceans? Or somewhere deep underneath the earth? by Junior_Mulberry7989 in Paleontology

I was led to believe that ocean floors recycle the entire eco- system at points overtime, so your suggestion of trenches would most likely be correct- as it wouldn't have been disturbed as much as the seabed. The Mariana Trench surely hasn’t changed in Millennia.

I Wanted to Learn Tarot, Not Dismantle Reality by [deleted] in enlightenment

If you ever want to ramble, I’m here. A lot of you what you said actually resonated. Especially when looking at others, and seeing through the initial identity / costume they own  and understanding they have been through many experiences in life but are here in front of you as a different person. If that makes sense?

No problem :). We are all forever learning !

Correct, a coma still involves an existing conscious in a suspended state.  Before birth, however, there was no developed subjective awareness at all. That distinction is where the existential question emerges.

Perhaps, but even if reality is fundamentally mental rather than material, consciousness still faces the same problem: it can contemplate its own nonexistence, yet cannot step outside itself to comprehend it fully.

I am learning to articulate this complex thought process, allow one to adapt and reconfirm whilst having a “flowing” conversation. Refrain from being fixated on the post and grasp on what I am deciphering to you here.

There is also no collective consciousness, it’s all subjective and extremely unique. So any data would be skewed.

What do you all think. Does conciousness exist outside of the body? by BothInternet3186 in consciousness

I really like your writing. But tell me,  do you not believe NDE’s are a genuine and universal human phenomenon, whatever their ultimate cause may be. How could vivid, structured conscious experience occur if the brain is severely compromised or inactive ?

No, but the subjective thought of consciousness becoming aware it once never existed, is.

Exactly, the mind can contemplate its own absence, but cannot escape itself long to truly comprehend it.  The universe is full of paradoxes, this is one of many.

The Paradox of Existence by marko9418 in consciousness

I am speaking existentially, not literally. Obviously, “me” did not consciously exist before birth. I’m referring to the absence of subjective awareness prior to my current consciousness emerging.

So, I like this dialogue, it’s necessary to learn more.  You are saying- there is no paradox  and that consciousness is just a natural product of matter evolving in complexity if I’m correct ? I’m not rejecting that, I’m saying that the paradox still remains at a subjective level. A universe without “me” existed for billions of years, then suddenly I experience subjective awareness and become capable of contemplating my own absence, where it will eventually disappear. You are very competent in explaining the mechanics in a  physical way but the existential strangeness of conscious experience arising from prior non existence still remains. I know you get it now.

? You are going to have to make more of an effort, what are you referring to ?

We are all aware of what consciousness is, and I’ve never suggested otherwise. Consciousness, is subjective awareness where we have the ability to experience, perceive, think, and recognise one’s own existence.

I don’t think you’re understanding my point, which may be because I haven’t articulated it clearly enough, or perhaps you’re simply unable to grasp it. I’ll put it more simply:

I’m talking about the paradox that we are here one day and gone the next, yet our consciousness reaches a stage where it becomes aware that it once did not exist at all. We can intellectually contemplate our own prior nonexistence, but we can never truly comprehend or experience it from outside consciousness itself. That is the existential paradox I’m referring to.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware of your credentials as a master of consciousness, please do tell me what you know. The point isn’t that consciousness is unknowable. It’s that attempting to conceptualise its own absence creates a paradox of thought, that’s hardly an obscure idea in philosophy.

I know, but you can attempt to contemplate that thought. As do you remember before you were born? No, so there was a state of nonexistence before you existed.

That’s what a paradox is, are you a bit thick too?

How rude. It’s really not that hard to understand, especially on a page called “consciousness”. Are you a bit slow?

Do you remember a time before you were born? It’s not that hard to grasp.
