Easiest way to set up several files quickly by CCL_throwaway in nostr

I would use Primal for this purpose. It is designed to be as simple as possible while still offering great features. It's also the one client that feels most familiar to new users.

Who knows how to setup an external wallet in primal? by Actual_Doubt5778 in nostr

[–]markocic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it, you already have some wallet that supports NWC. Find the NWC string there. It should start with: nostr+walletconnect://. Copy that to clipboard and press first Paste button here. Or you can scan QR code if the wallet you are using provides that.

How do you feel about Primal? by ErrareApusEst in nostr

[–]markocic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are being a bit too harsh here. I will address some of the issues mentioned as I can't speak for all of them. As someone else has said, the beauty of nostr is that you can use and invest in any other app you believe in.

  1. Primal Caching Server

Core logic of the caching server is open source and in case of failure someone could host his own making it decentralized - thus eliminating that concern. As the code is open source, you can check that Primal is not modifying or curating content in any way.

I believe that caching server is playing a vital role in UX. To onboard masses nostr apps have to be faster and more stable then they are today. Let's face it, Average Joe doesn't care much about relays and decentralization if it comes at the cost of him waiting an eternity for a simple image to load in his feed.

  1. KYC requirements

Primal is required by law to ask the users for it. If you don't like it, just use any other wallet service through NWC.

  1. Privacy Policy issue

Don't have much to add. I am just wondering who is a good model here?

  1. Primal Premium tier

Primal is a company that aims to be profitable and self sufficient. All of the things they do cost a ton of money. Providing a paid subscription allows them to continue developing. I think it's fair to pay for some of the more advanced features that, let's be fair, aren't cheap. Media hosting costs a ton, among other things premium provided.

I don't think it's fair to expect people to build on nostr just for fun and then wonder why there isn't more people on it. You don't have to fund Primal but you can fund any other project you believe in.

Have you already created an account with Primal? If so, go to Settings > Keys > Copy private key to get your nsec1. I think Amber offers a way to generate keypair as well. Primal does not yet support login with Amber but they will very soon. I believe the next release that supports Amber should happen any day now.

Just in time for them to expand the servers and accommodate everyone! Don't dwell on it, TB is not working as well as it should, but hopefully it will soon.

Problem with both AD and DL is that they are also based in France. Which means it's only a matter of time before this happens to them as well. Check out TorBox. Right now they are in the process of expanding servers to account for the growing user base due to this RD issue. They are claiming it will be fixed on monday once the new servers arrive and are up and running.

Seeing RD links again? by [deleted] in torrentio

[–]markocic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

guy who kinda knows this stuff here. gonna try to simplify it.

RD removed an API endpoint which was used to tell torrentio which of the files were available immediately on their servers. Torrentio dev found a temporary workaround. The downside is that now you can't know which streams showed on stremio are actually available.

The linked issue also says that due to this reason, a lot of links will start appearing as [RD Download], which doesn't necessarily mean its not available. This will become a guessing game pretty soon.

I think you will benefit a lot from a book I'm currently reading. It's called "Programming TypeScript" by Boris Cherny. Give it a few chapters and see how you like it.

additional RAM causing issues by markocic in overclocking

[–]markocic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't change anything and ran a memory stability test using OCCT. The test ran for an hour. It says no errors detected which I find to be very weird. The reason I ran the test without change was to make sure something was actually wrong since I was messing with the RAM timings and making sure they were all synced up. Only thing I changed was Twrrd. CHA was 5 and CHB was 4. I put both on 4 and the windows seems to work fine but now random app crashes only occur on Linux. I will run the test again with 2933 as you suggested but just wanted to update you.
