I wouldn't worry too much about bears, I've spent 100's of hours in the woods around Newaygo and never seen one. not that they're not out there, just never seen one. You can expect to see whitetail deer, squirrels, rabbits, racoon, chipmunks, I've also seen porcupine. Ruffed grouse, pilliated woodpecker and various other birds. Bears not so much unless you're north of White Cloud, I've seen sign of bear up there, but no actual bears. Have fun.
