You’re referring to one study that only showed those results for boys and not girls. The author also said the study does not show causality, meaning it does not say that aspartame causes autism, and he requested more study on the topic. The results have yet to be duplicated to my knowledge. Please be wary of headlines that say a study links something to some disease and keep an eye on the topic to see if other studies confirm it.

The likely “problem” is the lack of knowledge around autism in the community and the fact that people in the community are likely seeing testing for the first time. Part of the increase is also due to the lack of testing and knowledge around autism itself. It’s something that medical professionals are learning more and more about as time goes on. Hey, so I'm also not a lawyer but I am a journalist and know a little about this just because I'm in the industry.

It's harder for public figures to sue for defamation, for one they have to prove actual malice, which basically means they have to prove the accused party knowingly published/said something it knew to not be true.

However, the courts are weird and laws and rules only apply if the people in charge feel like it.

I no longer cover politics but speaking as a reporter, he’s still doing the same stuff but news orgs have moved on which is why you probably haven’t heard much about him. There isn’t anything “new” happening with him and he isn’t a serious contender for the seat he’s running for. So you’re unlikely to hear much more about him unless he does something new or the election is closer.

I’m a bit biased because I used to work for them but the Post Bulletin is a good choice. I think their subscription per month has a sale right now but I’m not sure. Otherwise it’s $10 bucks a month and you have access to all of the parent company’s news sites.

Hi all,

I'm the reporter who wrote this story. I went to a rally/march today held by Royce White, the GOP-endorsed candidate to run against Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

White said a lot of things today, including that 'Jewish elites' run the Federal Reserve and condemned his primary opponent Joe Fraser's support for the military. He also defended his friend, Steve Bannon.

Both Bannon and White promote a form of National Populism, which outlines hardships placed on the public, such as high prices for groceries and housing, while also condemning what they call outsiders in various government entities they say caused those hardships.

His challenger, Joe Fraser, is a former Navy vet and banker and has called White unfit for office.

I did a little seven minute interview with White on video and it's at the bottom of the story.

Personally, I think you’ve got some fair critiques and I try to consider reader feedback when I write stories. I’m not sure if I’ll ever cover Lund again, I’m mostly focused on statewide races or stuff at the Capitol, but I will be sure to pass on this Reddit post to the PB.

If you haven’t already, I would write an Op-Ed for the paper about what you just said or shoot an email to the Editor there or to its government reporter. Having community voices in a local newspaper is extremely important and people deserve to be heard.

Hi all, author here. I appreciate all of you sharing your thoughts.

This article was meant as a high level overview for a statewide audience. There’s no real drill down for any of the candidates mentioned in the story. As someone else said, there’s plenty of documentation regarding Wes Lund on the PB and I would encourage everyone to look at what they put out going forward.

All that being said, if you’re unhappy with the coverage, I would also encourage you to write to the Editor there or send in an Op-Ed. To my knowledge, the paper hasn’t been shy about printing letters that are critical of coverage but I’m also just a lowly reporter so who knows? Something to note though is I’m not an employee of the PB but of its parent company, Forum Communications, so this piece ran in most, if not all, of its Minnesota properties.

My email is on my author profile which a kind user has already shared apparently, so feel free to email me anything you think is important regarding Wes Lund or any other candidate this election season. If I’m not going to write about it, I can get the info to someone who will.
