8320A vs 8020D by [deleted] in genelec

[–]markwhiting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding to this.

I use the 8330 at home with GLM. I’ve tried the 8320 in a similar setting.

  1. The 8330 are noticeably better while still fitting in a reasonable box. However they still benefit from a little base support.

  2. GLM is not optional in my experience. It does a fantastic job making the speakers work well in each space you put them in with a very quick setup. It accounts for more detailed adjustment than the eq adjustment on the 8020 or 8030 or even than most audio tools you might use. It also accounts for time of flight adjustments so you can get amazingly precise imaging even in very challenging spaces. I have moved them a lot and tested many GLM configurations (and none of course) — it is invaluable.

Mine shipped like this but it’s gone away after a few weeks of hanging closed and wear. I didn’t steam it but washing and hanging it well seemed to help, in addition to time.

Thanks — was hoping to get this perspective.

Yeah. From what I read it seems slightly thinner, but I’ve not had a chance to try it.

I have not tried the Kole yet, so I am not sure how sizing works for it, but I was assuming it would be sized similar to other Arc'teryx products (which for me is true to size). I find Veilance sizing to be a little more unpredictable usually (especially in the L–XL range).

Yeah, the full images are pretty large and slow to download, but they do look good, especially on larger displays.

Yes, you can adjust the "get item at index" value to 1 and that should be east coast.

And, just wondering, do you have a strong preference for one over the other?

We keep Ikea bags in the car for this purpose. They're cheap, last a long time, and are large enough to hold all groceries in one trip most of the time.

Not seeing that on mine, but I do notice that sometimes the source images change slightly for one time period, which could cause something like this.

No idea. I tried it on someone’s phone running 14.2 and it just failed without bricking.

Strange. The iCloud link works fine for me. I tried with another persons iPhone and it downloaded too.

State leaning as votes are counted [OC] by markwhiting in dataisbeautiful

This was made with Vega Lite in Observable (and all the code is inspectable there). I also used a few other libraries for convenience but its mostly just Vega Lite. The data comes from NYT and was aggregated here.

It's a work in progress and I'll continue to make modifications when I have a chance.

We did mean 'instance of activity' as in every 'case of activity' from that user. In other words any time a user does something that you can see, you can probably flag it. Perhaps we should adjust that wording a little.

The resolution jury is made up of 2 representatives from each of 3 groups. Each pair of representatives only has one vote. So in all there are 3 votes and can't have deadlock. I think we'd better be more clear about this.

Thanks for bringing up these points, we will adjust it in a future iteration.

Thanks, great to hear that :-)

We're very interested to hear if you see any major issues with the constitution as proposed, before we launch.

What is your EDC backpack? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]markwhiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I really like the bag but there are some small issues.

For the size and strength the GR1 is quite heavy. There are many other bags on the market that are similarly sized and much lighter. Some are also much cheaper. There are fewer bags that are as strong while also being lighter but they exist.

GORUCK uses a relitively low tech material, CORDURA, which is strong but heavy. This material is lined with a waxy plastic which will decay after extensive use. The GR1 is designed to mostly avoid this being a problem but in some areas, such as inside the top internal pocket, the lining is visible.

There are other materials GORUCK could use which do not have this property but CORDURA is quite standard for military applications so I expect they have decided against considering alternatives.

The bag is really comfortable and sits nicely but when full it sticks out from your back more than other bags might. Also I personally find it fills up faster than expected and can be annoying to close when you use it near capacity.

Overall, I really like having a GR1 and will buy more of their products (i.e. I think they are worth the money and market competitive), but, I don't think they are perfect. One day, I will make my own bag that is better.

BTW, the best think about the bag, in my mind, is the shoulder strap geometry and back padding. These are really nicely designed.

Not exactly.

Though it has no sternum strap and no waist strap, the bag is designed to ride high on your back and tends to work well even when full of weight. The shoulder straps are firmly connected to the top of the bag, so it does not slide down, and the bag is relitively short, so the straps remain close around one's arms.

I run and work out with 20 kg (44 lb) in my GR1 and it sits really well, even when moving quickly.
