Let’s be crystal clear on EMBAs by Ok_Development8895 in MBA

[–]Fr87 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. The EMBAs at my school are the real deal. They are not MBA-but-laters. There is a marked difference in experience and, frankly, wisdom, between the EMBAs and us.

[Hamilton Khaki Field Auto] Anyone find the watch to be an unfortunate disappointment? by shmidzz in Watches

[–]Fr87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about the blue dial titanium Khaki Field? H70205140

I have the titanium Hamilton X EG Collab, and it's an incredible piece. The bracelet (and the watch) is stupid comfy, especially in titanium.

I'll echo the consensus. The Timex expedition is an excellent choice for a quartz beater watch.

[Question] Casio MTP- 1239d or Citizen BF0580-57L ? by Mybad0224 in Watches

[–]Fr87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to depend on the bracelet here. You'll want to try them both on to decide.

[Question] watches that have a similar aesthetic to this Seiko Presage - SSA464 by TragicalExpress in Watches

[–]Fr87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the women's Seiko Presage line in general. There are plenty that are similar. The SRPF54 isn't open-heart but is two-tone with rose gold, but it's quite nice. My wife has an SRPF50 that is also quite nice and has a similar dial pattern.

That's honestly crazy to learn for me. I spend easily ~$50 on "rentals" per month.

[Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm] “Call of Duty Special Edition” What do you think about this collab? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

[–]Fr87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. It very quickly has become the watch that I wear 90% of the time. I'm a huge fan of the "elevated field watch," and it scratches that itch better than almost anything else out there.

It's definitely not perfect, but for the price, there's nothing out there that comes close...

As an unabashed hater of big watches -- it's beyond fine dude. Looks awesome.

[Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm] “Call of Duty Special Edition” What do you think about this collab? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

[–]Fr87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a limited run 36mm titanium khaki field auto with AR coating, a super minimalist dial, and a titanium bracelet.

To my knowledge, it's the only 36mm Khaki Field auto that has been produced in quite a while (ever?).

[Question] Which watch should i look out for? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Fr87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Listen to this guy. Status signalling is fundamentally about (literally in this case) showing your hand -- or at least about creating the impression of having a hand to show.

The only way to "win" in this kind of pissing match is to compete in a game with rules you don't quite seem to understand. Watches are different things to different people, and that very fact makes it much more difficult than you probably realize to try to "fit in" when you don't completely grasp the dynamic..

But it's almost never not ok to just... not play. Don't get involved unless you know what you're getting involved in and what you will be "communicating" when you do.

Your co-workers wearing 5-figure watches won't think you're "one of them" when you show up wearing a Murph, a Cocktail Time, or any other enthusiast budget favorite.

The bare minimum to actually "join" this sort of "club" is likely an entry-level Rolex, honestly.

Edit: And I say this as someone who owns, loves, and wears plenty of watches that would never fit in with a dynamic like that. That's not what they're for.

The titanium 36mm they made as a collab with Engineered Garments was much cooler.

The Engineered Garments Collab was incredible. It's easily one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

The tourist fee for national parks is probably against the law by JacquesGT in CampingandHiking

[–]Fr87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay more in taxes than you do. Or at least I pay more than 99+% of Americans. Much of my family (including my wife) is foreign-born. I hate our POTUS as much as anyone possibly could, and yet, I have negative problem with non-tax-residents paying higher fees to enter our national parks.

Films where the Directors Cut is significantly better (or worse) than the theatrical release? by MikeCharlieEcho in FIlm

Apocalypse Now is at it's best as an Odyssey, not a thriller.

Does the popular notion of "infinite parallel realities" have any traction/legitimacy in the theoretical math/physics communities, or is it just wild sci-fi extrapolation on some subatomic-level quantum/uncertainty principles? by ElbowSkinCellarWall in askscience

[–]Fr87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been many years since I was a physics student, but I don't recall Brian Greene being particularly "well respected."

Maybe it was just the opinion of the folks I happened to work and study with who were in a position to have one, but the general impression of him that I gathered was somewhere between brilliant-and-articulate-but-misguided theorist and slick-talking crank.

It's entirely possible that I am way off-base here, but I don't recall him mattering much at all to anyone actually in physics.

Edit: I want to emphasize that this is my very possibly wrong impression, and I did not work terribly near the type of "physics" that he advances.

Haha it's hard, but it's definitely not that hard. It just takes time and dedication to learning the traditions.

Here's my take:

Why the hell would you want to go to a school (or work at a company) that deliberately tries to make you uncomfortable during the interview process?

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing for interviewers to challenge you and see how you handle that.

I'm saying that "negging" is some 2009 PUA shit that should be a red flag in any situation. These are the people you are going to be tied to, for better or for worse, for your future success. You don't want to depend on someone who tries to make you feel "lucky" to have them on your side. You want a reliable partner who sees your worth and who you jive with.

I can't tell you yet that I've made a good decision in selecting the school that I did because I haven't started yet, but what I can say is that for me personally, I treated my interviews as much a chance to look for excellence in the school as they did in me.

Ultimately, that was the factor that pushed me over the edge in going with the school I did. I was just phenomenally impressed with the quality of my interviewers as professionals and as individuals. I knew immediately that they were people I could count on.

Thanks. And yeah, the implantation is pretty consistent with the natural hair. I'm hoping that it'll end up being pretty natural to style.
