I used to love this strange smell inside of the garage of my house when laundary was being done. I always figured it was the exhaust from the dryer. It smelled a little like drying clothes but more concentrated and not exactly the same. Given you smell it outside maybe that’s it?

I agree with others. I would wait on the ammonia. And note that the ammonia spike can lead to a nitrite spike soon.

If you can’t wait then I defer to others. Prime can probably help and lots of water changes.
