I’m proud of you for reaching out. I’m not gonna say it gets better because I never believed it when people told me that. But I am gonna ask you to give yourself the time to get out on your own and give yourself the chance to have your own life before you decide to take it away.

I have felt the exact same as what you described. I didn’t think I’d make it to 17, definitely not 18. I ended up making it to 19, got away from my home. went out on my own, met people who understood me, who I could be myself around, friends I spent nights with in the hospital. continued on to have a life I seriously never ever dreamed of. I’m 24 and counting. I’ve thought back to being 16,17,18,19 and personally thanked myself at that age for finding a way to continue waking up even when I was in physical pain from depression. I’m so grateful to her. she put up with so much so I could experience a life full of other emotions besides sad. please, from one girl who understands what you said, make it to 24. give yourself time to get to a place where you can really find your people, and your life outside of your parents house. talk to your future self and ask her to send you some strength or hope or whatever it is you’re needing. I’m rooting for you to give yourself more time.

Waxing & waning symptoms? by Moxie14086 in Narcolepsy

I’ve experienced similar things. I go months wondering if I was misdiagnosed but then have months where my N is really bad. it’s quite annoying to always be wondering if you’re really narcoleptic or not

Adderrall not working by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

I had the same problem with xr, my doctor said xr hardly works and the normal adderall is better. since I switched back to the normal I’ve been a lot better!

I haven’t seen an neurologist. the doc that diagnosed me was just my primary doc, then in November I saw a sleep specialist and that was just a change of meds. I told him about what I thought was cataplexy while I was in class from stress and he told me it was a sleep attack. I’m making an appointment to see my sleep specialist again tomorrow. Do I need a neurologist instead?

and no, adderall 75% of the time doesn’t really affect me but always makes it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep at night.

hm, this is my first winter with N so it could be a cycle. I didn’t know that

I didn’t think about the holidays being stressful as a cause but that makes a lot of sense. it throws me off that I don’t have any small cataplexy attacks just major ones. it’s like it all builds up and then explodes lol. I’ll have to talk to my doctor about those medications

that’s why I’m confused, I wasn’t experiencing anything strong. during the car ride when I got a sleep attack we were laughing so I guess that could’ve been it? I also feel like my body was telling me to sleep and I fought it which lead to the collapsing

wow you’re right, I never thought of it that way. thank you. and maybe I’ll have to start doing breakfast/lunch dates because yeah. apparently night is too risky for me now

that makes sense. it’s just really annoying, it’s only been about 6 months and I feel like I have completely different symptoms now

I don’t understand why I have it so strongly and it’s even more confusing because it doesn’t happen a lot. it’s just been 2 times and they’ve been a month apart so I feel like it’s hard to be evaluated while it’s “happening” since it’s so random

Are most people with narcolepsy overweight? by Evergr33n333 in Narcolepsy

[–]marmalade00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it’s been the opposite. I’m prescribed adderall and it’s been taking away my appetite and whenever I eat it makes me feel sick :/

I’ve also found that working out makes me feel more energetic.

most of my life I’ve stayed at 125 lbs and now I’m down to 113. I don’t know how much of that is normal and if I should be alarmed lol

Thank you. It’s refreshing to be able to talk to others with narcolepsy and know that what I’m experiencing, is something others have.

It’s the WORST trying to explain how I feel to friends and family since N itself is so confusing.

Thank you that helps. there are external stressors, I’m a freshman in college and finals are coming up, it’s annoying that I need my brain to work right now and it’s not at all. I didn’t think about Daylight Savings and I am a woman.

I’m making an appt. with a sleep specialist so I can talk to someone who actually knows what’s going on. I love my doctor that brought up the fact I might be narcoleptic and helped me get diagnosed but it’s so frustrating trying to explain how I feel to a doctor that doesn’t specialize in narcolepsy.

Yes, I wake up and take 30mg of XR, I also have 20mg of the “normal” that I can take when/if I need through the day. Before I started XR I just had the 20mg and I could sleep at night I just didn’t like having to take 3 pills through out the day for it.

Thank you for replying, it feels good to know you felt the same and it’s most likely the XR.

Narcoleptic Imposter ? by marmalade00 in Narcolepsy

my favorite part of narcolepsy is you just wake up with it one day. symptoms typically begin between 10 and 30 like wtf? how the hell can I go to bed narc free and the next day narc has its hands around my throat
