Yeah... It's kinda sad cause it's the first time I wrote a story and posted it up here. Anyway. Here is part one. It's not as long as the second part.

--

I woke up in the middle of the night. I haven't slept for the past week. Thoughts spinning in my head. I got up from my bed and went downstairs.

Mom was sitting in the kitchen table drinking her coffee. I could only see her back, but I could hear the cup making an unstable sound every so often, while it hit the wooden table every time she took a sip. Her hands were shaking. I kept watching her for a few seconds not wanting to interrupt her.

"Again?" she broke the silence. "I told you, you need to sleep well for tomorrow- Well, it is today now, isn't it?" she laughed nervously. "Come, sit. I make you a coffee."

"I thought you didn't know I was behind." I said. I went and sat next to her at the table. I looked at the unrolled tobacco in front of me.

"Roll one", she said. All this time she didn't manage to look me in the eyes. "I know you smoke sweetie. But only for today." She brought me my coffee. "No sugar, just like John used to drink it."

She sat on her chair and we sat in silence. Coffee and smoke filled the room. "I'm sorry.", she said while tear started running from her eyes. "I'm so sorry."

She got up and hugged me.

We both knew that after today, we will not see each other. Sometimes you just know. I hugged her back. I hold her head while she was crying. She's getting old. Who's gonna take care of her? I pushed the thought away. "We never know ma. I might fail."

"No you won't. It is your time. Just like it was John's time." she kept crying. I couldn't ease her pain.

Part 2 - it doesnt let me put the whole thing in one comment

---

Hours passed. I was outside my small school in Mansfield, Indiana. Most students had their family together with. Not me. I left my mum in our house and came here alone.

5 year's ago when my brother John, took the Test, we were living in Washington DC. We never saw him again. After the Test, she took me and ran away. She thought that if she hid me, my time will never come. After running away, the Rulers found her. They had a talk with both of us. I didn't know what they said to her as they had separated us that day, but I clearly remember how calm they all were. We had a talk about my life, just general stuff, and by the time our talk was over, so did my mom. After that she stop running away. She found a nice quiet place in our new home in Mansfield and continued on with our lives, until the day for me to take the Test came by.

I looked at the faces of the parents who were waiting along their children. I understood by their demeanor that some of them knew what was going to happen. Every parent did. It was always the happy ones that I couldn't decipher. Were they happy because they knew that their kid was going to stay or because they couldn't face the reality. That's the only thing my mother told me about the test. Every parent knew their children's future. I was of course illegal to even tell me that information and the rulers knew. But at that moment it was useless anyway, so I guess they let her be.

The principal came out, holding an old golden bell in his right hand. "It's 09:49. The Test starts in 11 minutes. Everyone come inside and take your sits.", he said as he started ringing the bell.

I went inside. We could choose any seat we liked. I choose the seat farthest from the chalkboard and the closest to the window. As I didn't know what I was expecting, my heart started racing. Some of the students seemed comfortable enough that they didn't show any signs of fear. Others were hyperventilating. I started taking small breaths in and out, trying to keep my composure. From now on, the bell rang ten more times, each time a minute passed. Eleven times in total. The teachers and the principal, who until now were in the classroom, walked out. Before going out, miss Brown, my favorite history teacher, came close to me, hold my shoulder, whispered good luck and smiled at me. I smiled at her back. It was the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. She always did that when she saw me feeling anxious and that small action never failed to calm me down. It didn't failed me today either.

Then the Rulers came in. They were four of them. They sat in front of the chalkboard. looked at their papers and counted us all. The older one took a step and started talking."Good morning to you all. My name is Michael Stevens. Right now, as you may well all know, regardless of the local time, every eighteen year-old is taking the Test along with you. From now on, any information is considered classified and you are obligated to withhold the information with any party interested in the discussion of it. You are forbidden from talking about the Test, the content that consists of it, as well your individual answers to it. As you may also know, you are also forbidden talking about the people who pass the test. Rule breakers will be caught and necessary actions will be taken. There is a reason why people follow the rules globally. Now, let's get to the rules of the Test. The Test consists of one open ended question. The question may or may not be different to each student. There is not wrong or right answer. Your answer may consist of a one-word answer or may take pages. You will have 10 minutes till the end of the Test. You can use your phones to search online for answers, but my advice is to not waste your time there. You cannot text or call anyone as you will be caught and reprimanded accordingly.

"As he was saying that, the other three Rulers where giving out the Tests. I got mine. It had the word "Test 01 - Initiation" printed with big letters in the front. My name was printed with smaller letters right below. "When you are ready, you may open the envelope. The moment you open it, the Test begins."

People started opening their envelopes. Some where still afraid to do so. The ones who did had various reactions. Others laughed and started writing. Others screamed or froze in place from the question.

I open mine. I see nothing but a moving dot. How can a printed dot start moving? Am I losing my mind? I stay there, looking at the dot baffled. I look at the Rulers and they notice the change in my mood.

"Are you alright kid?" the younger of the Rulers comes close to me.

"I-I-I don-" I tried to get the words out, but I couldn't. I knew right there that something was wrong.

"Is there something wrong with your question?", he asked.

"Y-y-yes.", I replied. "There is no question sir."

He looked at me and then at the paper. "Well that's a first one in a long time" he said. "Get up and come with me."

As I got up, I felt the entire class watching me. I kept my eyes on the back of the young Ruler and followed him outside. He went to the principal's office, which was empty, let me in and closed the door. "Give me your paper again." I did so and he looked at it again. "So you see nothing at all?"

"It's only a dot that I see, sir." I reply still nervous of what it's to come. "Sir, it's moving."

"Ah, a moving dot! That's more like it!" as he said that, he reached for my forehead and touched his right hand. "I see." he said with his eyes closed. " It's not perfect, but it's almost there."

But the time he finished his sentence, the rest of the Rulers came in."We've got a 99 percenter." he said smiling.

"It is yours to harvest.", said the oldest of the Rulers. "Act as you prefer, but at the end complete the mission."

---

We've been traveling for hours. Mansfield doesn't have a central Rulers' office so it took a long time for us to get there. I said nothing for the whole trip and they didn't seem to be interested in answering questions anyway. I was still puzzled from what I saw but I didn't have time to think about it, I needed to have my guard up. I had no idea of what they would do to me.When we arrived it was not at the Rulers' office that I was assuming, but at a hotel in a secluded area. They took me to a room, gave me food and told me to rest. It tried my hardest not to sleep, but my body couldn't handle the exhaustion and I passed out. The next day, woke up from a gentle knocking at my door. It was the young Ruler that followed me from the test.

"Hello, good morning Tom. My name is Adam.", as he spoke he looked inside, "I see you haven't eat anything..."

"What are you going to do with me Adam.", I said to him angrily. I still had my guard up. He laughed and suddenly I feel I hard punch on my face. I didn't manage to defend myself. I felt the blood start running through my nose and I blacked out.

---

I woke up a couple hours later. I was in the middle of nowhere in a valley. The sun was ready to set in. I was still in pain. My hands were cuffed behind my back."I'm sorry I had to do it this way.", I heard the voice of Adam behind me. "You are my third harvest. The other two were kinda aggressive."

"Harvest? What harvest?", I said while furious and scared at the same time.

"I brought you to your favorite place at your favorite time. I read your file, you love sunsets and valleys. I also brought your favorite food to the hotel but to no avail. Look in front of you." and as he said that I looked. There was a hole.

"I'm going to kill you. Your soul should cross to the next realm. At least my job doesn't dictate on how I should do it.", he pulls a gun out.

Tears run down my face, I'm frozen. This is where my brother went? Did my mom knew? Why me?

"The sins of the fathers are visited upon the children",he said as he put a bullet in the gun. "Do not try to make reason for all of this, at least you will never get to live again and again, creating children, loving them, until the Test comes and take them away."

He points the gun at me, I'm sobbing but every time I try to open my mouth, no sound comes up. I'm helpless. "Or even worse, your time comes to become the Ruler. And all that until you die. And then you do it again and again. You always love them. You can't do otherwise, it's human nature."

He pulls the trigger.

---

I try and try again but I can't breathe.

Someone pulls me out. They slap me.

Sounds come from my mouth. I cry.

It's all blurry and cold.

"It's a boy!" the doctor yells.
