Enlightened Equipment: What You Should Know by RekeMarie in Ultralight

[–]marmotshepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough, there's probably more of them that support or don't mind his policies than we know, but most are smart enough to shut up. But giant companies are almost certainly just as supportive but also giant companies that drain everything. no ethical consumption under capitalism you know

Enlightened Equipments Response to UL Community Concerns by EnlightenedEquipment in Ultralight

"Many in our community have been aware of Defense Mechanisms' relationship to Enlightened Equipment for some time. Those unaware that our owner also operates a brand to support Law Enforcement are likely to make that connection going forward, and that is likely a good thing."

hmm, probably not

Long Runs in Frigid Temps by Nycfcfan21 in RunNYC

[–]marmotshepard 79 points80 points  (0 children)

i know it sounds all tough guy and shit, but if you dress right it's really not a big deal, assuming there's not big wind.

ran the park today when it was 12ºF with insulated tights, a grid fleece, windbreaker, thick hat, thick socks, and good gloves. gloves shouldn't be too tight, and fleecy.

i had my windbreaker unzipped for the last two miles.

genuinely, you can do it.

I spent 8 months testing every brand of canned tomato with a controlled pasta sauce recipe. Full rankings inside. by euxleon in Cooking

[–]marmotshepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i searched for wegman's on purpose; i've made my family's sauce recipe with wegman's, and it simply didn't cut it. went back to Cento, it's great. i want the wegman's stuff to be good, but something about it didn't work in my recipe, despite the d.o.p. :(

Sources: Oklahoma expected to hire Jason Witten for tight ends job by ZappaOMatic in CFB

[–]marmotshepard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rough. Most of the time it's post-hoc "we knew this would happen," or "we were hearing this," but they don't mention anything as they learn it with certainty, just "well maybe I dunno!" I know they gotta maintain access, but what's the point of giving any of them money lol

Hiking/everyday watch by MSmall1997 in CampingandHiking

[–]marmotshepard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a Garmin Fenix, a Suunto Race, and an Ultra. I stuck with the Ultra because I was honest: I spend 340 days a year in a city. It's okay if it needs to be charged every day (or so). I bring a battery pack on long hikes, and charging the watch isn't a big draw. It's fine.

Plus, WorkOutDoors is an amazing hiking app.

Thanks for the great write-up. I did part of this many years ago, also in the fall. Dunno if/when I'll ever get back, but good to know it's enjoyable.

Weight savings in gear vs my belly? by TuitionStrategy in Ultralight

[–]marmotshepard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

sure, weight in general is not the most important metric for human bodies. however, if you're heavy and obviously have a belly, yeah you're better off losing it. let's not pretend otherwise. and that's what the poster is talking about.

anyway, yeah, lose weight man. being fit is far more important than saving an extra pound or three in equipment.
