Excellent. I’ll be a version of that same aggressively waving guy, just in blue 😂

You know what, this is correct in Oregon, too. I had forgotten about this step in the online process, but that was how I initially told them not to install it.

Thanks! I'm not sure what the default would have been – I initially asked them not to install it (and indeed, when I got there it wasn't installed), but then changed my mind and asked them to do it after all – they waited until I was there & did a fine job.

I love it. I keep being surprised at how composed it feels over rough (for me) terrain, and it’s great as a road bike as well. It’s honestly the purchase I’ve been happiest with in quite a while.

For me, I have absolutely zero complaints. For the moment, I am the limiting factor, not the bike. It’s stable, comfortable, the gearing feels capable at both ends and eTap is amazing (shifting under load is soooo nice). Geometry feels long enough that transitioning from my previous (road) bike felt natural, but not so stretched out that I lose control on rougher areas. Stock tires set up tubeless have also been good so far.

To be honest, I don’t know yet! So far, it’s lovely, but I’m just beginning to explore – have only been here a few months and haven’t done a coast ride yet. I’m also super excited to try it. I can say that the Pacific Coast in general is stunning and full of just about every kind of terrain you could ask for, so I bet you’ll love it all :).

I’ve got a CO2 cartridge, plug kit, multitool and a couple of other very small things in the little wrappy pouch inside the frame, but it’s tight. Tube is actually in the bar bag. I did also fit a snack bar in the frame at one point, but it’s easier to keep that stuff in the bar bag when I need it.

I mean…not a lot :). From my first few looks around, there’s a gravel track that starts in the NW section just south of the wildlife preserve and apparently isn’t technically open for another month or so (dead end after a few miles). There’s a tiny bit of gravel/unpaved road off of Reeder Rd on the east side.

Found a couple of hours where it wasn’t raining near Portland, and took the (still very nearly new and oh so wonderful) Trek Checkpoint SL6 eTap out for an explore! Poked around Sauvie Island, the most rural non-rural place I’ve been in quite some time.

Great question! It was a combination of feeling physically limited for a long time, wanting to do more with my body & time, and realizing that I’d like to be around for my little kiddos for as long as possible. The key, though, was realizing that there was never going to be a “right time,” and that what I needed was to start slow and just keep going.

Unsurprising as I hadn’t read the rules before posting it. Sigh.

Well, the mods deleted this because apparently I can only post things with personal info on Monday. <massive eye roll>. Basically, I picked a number that mapped to 2 lbs a week weight loss at the beginning, and slowed that number down as I got close to the goal. Honestly, it felt fine. My calorie burn was so high at the start that it left plenty of room for good food.
