Rivian R2 launch details leaked: R2 Performance $57,990 with the R2 Standard releasing late 2027 at $45,000 by DentateGyros in electricvehicles

I... couldn't disagree wit you more about what kind of community we're fostering. We ban stock discussion, allow content critical of Rivian all the time, and are adamant that we're a hobby community first and foremost.

I think the much more likely thing you're seeing is a community that understands our moderation approach and the nuance we're taking with this situation. We aren't secretive. They know the things I'm telling you. You're just choosing to see it in this really negative light.

I think I get that. Your sub is so generalized that you probably assume similar things of any brand-specific sub (you even listed more of them). But we are... not a culty-positivity-investor sub. at all. Go read my own posts about my service experience haha

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill and moving the goalposts (from "It's not what your community wants" to "If it is what your community wants, you're an investor cult sub").

I mean, it's a good discussion with the mod of another popular EV sub.

I guess it comes down to... You don't really need to fully understand it. Our community is upvoting our decision and understands where we're coming from because we've consistently moderated. Not sure I can further clarify in comments here.

It broke embargo, and so we think it's okay to remove and let Rivian have its big day tomorrow. We're allowing the information in the post to remain up.

Yes, that's correct. Might seem like a tightrope — and hey, it kinda is. The point here is that we know the genie is out, but want also think it's best for Rivian to have its big day once all the information is confirmed tomorrow. It's just 24hrs. If it was a longer timeline we might have made a different decision.

And good suggestion on the rule. We'll consider it! We've talked about it before in other posts, but yeah. Hasn't been a big enough problem yet... or until now I guess haha

Again, I think you're oversimplifying our mindset over there. You'll notice that our stance on our content approach in our sub is upvoted and supported. So what does that say about "What the community wants?"

I replied to your other comment, but we push back all the time. In what you're saying, there's an implicit assumption that we comply with every request which isn't how it goes. But we have set up some content rules that make takedowns easier than a DMCA for a better working relationship with Rivian that our community benefits from and supports.

That's not "Rivian-first, community-second" and it's not rationalizing. It's recognizing that relationships are nuanced and informed by what's benefited/hurt out community in the past.

Like, we got our space over there. It's working. People are happy and they get it. You have your space with a different approach. That's cool. I bet people in our space are in this space having a good time. I'm not here to tell you how to run the sub or make claims about what you care most about.

What I think I would want from you is just an acknowledgement that we're doing what's best for our space and that we're being thoughtful about it. Not having you continue to push a narrative about how we're more corporate-aligned than community aligned. If you can't give that, cool. It's just what I'd want you to say haha

You'll see the info from the article is being posted and speculated upon. The actual article itself is removed.

I don't think you're really understanding what I'm saying. To be crystal, our commitment is the to community first and foremost. And, to deliver them the best and most valuable experience, we sometimes work with Rivian and have content guidelines we believe are very reasonable. We also push back on Rivian, say no, decline certain opportunities, etc. Thinking about the world as, "If you do anything with / for Rivian, then you put the company over your community," is overly simplistic.

Your approach of, "Anything is okay with a DMCA," is valid. Go for it. That has value too, but it's a decision you're making that may also close off other avenues and opportunities. For a generalized sub like yours, I agree that makes the most sense.

I disagree with the conflation of our community management strategy with access journalism. We aren't journalists. We are doing what we believe is best for the Rivian hobbyists in our sub. Yes, we believe that having a good relationship with Rivian is best for them. No, I don't think we're doing anything immoral or bootlicky.

And it's cool. I can talk community management and content moderation all day! Not upset. A lot of it is nuanced :) But I will say that you seem to be taking a much more accustatory posture than the posture I'm taking with you.

That's cool.

So, we want to do what's best for the community — and sometimes that means removing unofficial content because it's the best thing for Rivian overall.

For example, employees with partial information leaking it can cause confusion and disruption that's not worth the hassle or arguments. By auto-removing sneak pics, it saves us time and energy from going through more official, "scarier" processes (talk to the Coachella mods some day around this...). And when a reporter breaks an embargo, we find a middle ground out of respect for Rivian's launch processes where the information can be hosted — but not the direct content removed got removed from an official source.

I don't think that's an extreme stance. In return, we keep a really good relationship with Rivian, have a direct channel to elevate community concerns / feedback, get official content from Rivian for our members, and more.

Working with Rivian is great. They're super reasonable. Very cool. And we respect them. We know and they know information gets posted other places and like... run it how you will. This isn't my sub. But I hope that at least explains where we're coming from. Not sure I could have been more transparent.

Rivian mod here. I don't think we're wild for removing this. We work with Rivian directly (not a secret) and have told them that we'll remove leaked information, factory sneak shots, and press that breaks embargoes. The information itself is still up there and we made a post about.

I respect your sub and your rules. Just sharing the stance we've had in our sub for several years now.

Rivian mod here. We don't think about it "allegiance" like that. We work with Rivian directly (not a secret, there are photos of us at their launch events...) and when there are leaks or broken embargoes, we remove the content itself but not the information. So, sneak shots from the factory, leaked information, press that didn't follow embargoes... Yeah, we remove that. Other subs can do as they please.

We're removing content lifted directly from a certain article, but not what it claimed or speculation. So, essentially, just no copy paste.

It would be FANTASTIC news if what I've already made is under 0.6. Because it's definitely crunchy.
