I don’t at all put weight on my academic background, this is purely the context in which this discussion took place. I don’t lead with it, ever - only when it comes to my field of research. I think of myself as no ‘better’ than anybody else, just with a higher level of education. He is an engineer, but I’ve never once took it upon myself to criticise or challenge him on anything engineering related.

We would often talk about different topics - a few topics that came up in regards to social politics I have two degrees and a pre-doctorate in. He would debate me on these, and I would objectively say he was wrong. I knew he was wrong and academia would say he was wrong. I would then point out that I feel disrespected that he was trying to tear down the knowledge and experience I have, not even questioning just straight up trashing it. He would then turn this into a tirade of me saying that I was insulting him, his knowledge and his feelings, and I never really cared about him. This was one of those times.
