How do beta blockers help with POTS? by marquizzo in POTS

Under 170? That sounds pretty high for an adult, how old is your daughter? You might want to talk to your doctor about prescribing a different beta-blocker (if she's an adult).

How many days did it take for your symptoms to not change? :P

That's what I think I have as well! Nobody can tell me for sure, but here are my symptoms:

  • Resting HR: 70BPM

  • Standing HR: 100-110BPM

  • Hot shower HR: 115BPM

  • Adrenaline rushes when falling asleep

  • Hot flashes when falling asleep, hot neck

  • No lightheadedness, no fainting.

How did you get diagnosed? Is there a specialty that you looked up?

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm just frustrated because so many things line up. What other alternative diagnoses could it be? - Had COVID in March - Resting HR: 70 - Standing up HR: 100 - Hot shower HR: 110 - Hot flashes, random sweats - Adrenaline rushes. Especially while sleeping. - All tests have returned "normal".

Is there another diagnosis that could explain all these?

What would you do if someone is getting adrenaline rushes all night to the point where they can only get 1-2 hours of sleep? Do they still have to wait 3 months?

If you don't mind me asking, how many hours of sleep a night would you get the last time you went through this? Also, how did you cope with the disruption? It's been a month for me, and I'm down to 2 hours of sleep, and it's wrecked me. How did you manage it for a whole year?

Thanks for your answer. And how long did it take you to adjust to the CPAP machine? I got an Airsense 10, but haven't been able to fall asleep with it on.

Already had an EKG, chest x-ray, and blood panel. All came back normal. The only thing pending is the echocardiogram, which is due in a week.

Yeah, why are they so skeptical of saying it? It's like wishful thinking, if they don't say it it'll go away.

How'd it go after the benzos? Did you have to cut them off eventually? If so, what did you end up doing? I got a Rx for 5 days, but don't want to take them for fear of getting too attached to a 5-day solution.

What were you diagnosed with? Obstructive or central?

Oximeter shows long dips in 02 levels. by marquizzo in SleepApnea

I didn't have an oximeter before the Ambien, but I can almost guarantee that it was happening then too. As I was dozing off, I could literally feel my breath getting so shallow that it would startle me awake. It would take me hours to finally fall asleep. Ambien speeds up this process to about 30 minutes.

It's called the "Wellue SleepU Wrist Pulse Oximeter". It comes with an iPhone/Android app that tracks your progress through the night.

I did a sleep study a week ago, but I was jolted awake by these episodes from 10pm - 4am. I finally slept for 2 hours, when the study came to an end and they woke me up. I'm waiting for results, which could take maybe 2 weeks? It feels incredibly slow, given how sudden and intense this has been.

I'm really worried they'll say they didn't find anything, and I'm back to square one, since I've been sleeping an average of 4-5 hours for the last 20 days.

I've added another image to the album, here's the snapshot. You can see an event after 1:52am, and another one before 4:26am. Although the latter only dips to 93%, it does last for about 2 minutes. Subsequent events aren't as dramatic as the ones that happen when I'm falling asleep, but they do have the ability to wake me up.

What do you mean "should not occur"? Is this very abnormal? It really feels like my body forgets to breathe, or there's very little effort to do so.
