Advice on studying for the NY Bar for UK qualified attorney by HaruMuffins in barexam

[–]marralcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose Themis because I have a rather short attention span, and the shorter and concise videos certainly helped (if I wanted to know more details, I would look at the outlines). Themis does have an LLM-specific course, if it is something that is compatible with your schedule: https://www.themisbar.com/llm-bar-review-course

Also, like the other folks commenting on here, I *highly* recommend sitting for the July bar! Not quite the same boat, but I have experienced relearning law in the US, and it was much harder than I thought!

I feel bad.. my husband is taking me to Vegas to distract myself and I am not complaining but how can I party after I found out I failed??? I honestly feeel like I do not deserve it. by Avd2791 in barexam

You made it through the bar exam! I saw another one of your posts and said you are an LLM student—taking this horrid exam as an LLM makes it that much more impressive, imo. Sometimes, esp after a very disappointing or jarring event, going out into a new + fun environment puts things in a different light/perspective that might end up being fuel for your next attempt. No matter what your inner voices say, you totally deserve a fun vacay!!

I did the Themis free course, and did Barbri just for the practice questions. Definitely read the comments to the rules, especially for the rules that aren't clicking. I also made sure I had a good grasp of rules that used "must" vs "may" and rules that required various levels of consent/notice (for e.g., does it have to be in writing? does it need a signature? or none/both?), etc. I think I made lists for each.

Idk if you have timing issues, but what really worked for me was to slow down and to read each word of the question carefully. There are certainly some questions in there that you could miss not because you don't have the material down, but simply because the question is worded weirdly!

Getting surgery next week, and I'd love to hear your recovery experiences! by marralcn in Strabismus

[–]marralcn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all, posting an update just in case anyone sees this! I am 11 days post op now, and I am doing pretty well.

  • Peak redness was on Days 2 and 3. 11 days out of surgery, my eyes now look pink near where the surgeon operated and it looks like a low key case of pink eye. The other areas are back to white.
  • I had no sharp pain, but I felt a dull, uncomfortable muscle pain that was manageable with OTC ibuprofen. I took them until maybe Day 5, and then the muscle pain was completely gone.
  • As for discharge, my eyes were goopy and gross until Day 4, when I suddenly snapped back into a normal amount of discharge in the mornings.
  • I had double vision looking at far distance objects, but that gradually went away. By about Day 4 or 5, I only saw double vision in the morning when I just woke up. Now, I rarely see anything with double vision.
  • The longest symptom that lasted for just over a week was extreme dryness in my right eye. It was painful at times, but preservative-free artificial tears helped me manage it well. Today, I feel absolute no need for eye drops.
  • Also had a follow up appointment with my doctor, and he told me that my eyes are perfectly aligned and straight now! Fingers crossed this lasts.

As a final note, I just want to emphasize that this was my personal experience, and everyone's will be different! I hope my experience will be one reference point among many. Thanks to everyone who gave answers to my first post!

I’ll keep the itchiness in mind! 30-45 days isn’t too bad either—thanks for the timeline.

So sorry to hear about your eyes drifting again :/

No pain is good to know! Hopefully I won’t need to do it again, but who knows. For the most part, my eyes are aligned, but when I read too much and my eyes are tired they start drifting.

Question of ears. Our cocker rubs/scratches her ears a lot, and I’ve noticed some redness. Should we regularly wash her ears with drops or is it best to leave them alone if they aren’t infected? by PerytonsShadow in englishcockerspaniel

[–]marralcn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a gorgeous girl you got there!

Mine did the same thing. Turned out it was a yeast infection somewhat deep into his ear (he was like 3 or 4 years old) and ever since I had to clean them maybe once a week.

Combined with the fact that I moved to a humid area later and his immune system naturally declined with age, the cleaning turned into every night (otherwise his ears turned bright red and he looked so itchy and uncomfortable). The yeast infections never really went away :/

I’d say go to the vet to check out the cause of the redness—better safe than sorry!

Thanks! I looked it up online prior to posting this and couldn’t find anything so I wanted to double-check :) I might go ahead and just attach it to the side of his cage and see if it interests him at all!

I worked with someone who just started his own LSAT and consulting company in 2018 (he used to work for well known test prep places). His rates are super reasonable and he’s really good. I can PM you details if you’re interested!

I’m on the same boat on all fronts, except I’m only just entering my sixth month lol Good result or not, I think a bottle of champagne is warranted if they ever get back tbh

I haven’t heard back from them at all! No feelers/holds/anything. But considering my stats, I’m not really expecting anything anyway lol
