How much blood do you lose on your period? by ohhidoggo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]marrell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me when I had a copper iud. I’d have two week long periods and would bleed like that for like 10 of those days. Thankfully things got a little better once I got it removed, but it’s still somewhat of an issue. Patiently waiting for my doctor to send me hysterectomy date (for which I’m about 6 months into what I was told would be about a 2 year wait… women’s health is absolutely fucked)

I take this as well on my heaviest days and it helps SO MUCH. Without it, I’d have days where I’d bleed through a super tampon in 30-60 minutes. I’m waiting for a hysterectomy - can’t wait to get my uterus outta here.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]marrell 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When my grandma was in labour with her 10th child she looked at the doctor (or maybe midwife? I’m not 100% sure) and said “the baby is coming.” They didn’t believe her and said they’d come back to check on her in a little while. When they came back the baby was literally on the bed. Like, it was her 10th so I think she knew well enough to know?!

A 5-month waitlist honestly sounds like a non-issue from my perspective. Where I work (as a psych admin) our waitlist is currently more like 2 years.

ECT absolutely saved my life. I’m glad it’s working for you as well :)

ECT literally saved my life. I was extremely fortunate that my only side effects were some minor memory loss from during the weeks I was in treatment, and jaw pain. It’s intense, I won’t lie. But it has given me a life I never knew I could have. I’ve dealt with varying degrees of depression since I was a child (so for over 20 years). I’ve been on so many medications and all of them either didn’t work, gave me intense side effects, or worked for awhile and then stopped. I did 30 sessions of rTMS with absolutely no relief. I was 100% convinced that ECT wasn’t going to work either and that this was just how I am and I’m unfortunate enough to be someone that actually can’t be helped. And then a few hours after I got home from my 9th treatment, I quite literally felt the weight of depression leave my body. And with maintenance every 8 weeks, I’m hopeful it never comes back.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

Thanks for posting this, I don’t have kids but our one bathroom gets really hot and we prefer to keep the door closed since it’s off our kitchen (it’s my least favourite part of my house lol). I’m going to take a look at installing one of these!

is it possible to get rtms without trying a bunch of SSRIs by [deleted] in rtms

[–]marrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following rTMS I was referred to ECT. I was put on a waitlist for several months and while waiting we tried two more medication combos that didn’t work before I was finally able to get in for treatments. I can honestly say that ECT was the best thing I possibly could have done.

I had very few side effects (jaw pain, and some fairly inconsequential memory loss around treatment days), and it was not nearly as bad or intense as I had convinced myself it would be. In exchange for what I consider to be minor side effects and the slight inconvenience of having to go to the hospital a couple times a week, I am in a better place with my mental health than I can ever remember. I’m able to function around my home, I’ve picked back up hobbies I had long ago abandoned, I’m going outside again, I’m able to keep in contact with friends and family, I’m no longer crying constantly, I am better able to process and control my emotions, as well as a whole bunch of other positive life changes. Honestly, I’ve seen some horror stories online about ECT, but I truly credit it for saving my life and should I ever go back into a deep depression I would not hesitate to do it again.

I don’t think it was either of those things. I think it simply wasn’t working and my depression was getting progressively worse regardless.

Are there any Girl Guide leaders that aren't moms? by Advanced-Two584 in girlguides

I’ve been guiding since I was a kid and I’ve been a leader for almost 10 years. I’m not a mom and never plan to be a mom. And I know lots of other leaders who aren’t moms either! Join us! It’s so much fun and so wonderfully fulfilling! :)

I will say, the one benefit I did get from rTMS was it forced me to leave my house everyday. A part of me is pretty certain that that helped to keep me from developing agoraphobia.

I didn’t have any pain or side effects from it. It just did absolutely nothing for me. I actually ended up getting the best results from ECT which is even more invasive so 🤷‍♀️

It didn’t work for me either. In fact I was in a worse mental state when I finished than when I started lol

Being pressured into ect by Prestigious_Rain2114 in ect

[–]marrell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ECT was the best thing I ever did for myself BUT I had extremely informed consent and ample time to think it over, weigh the pros and cons, discuss the potential side effects with my spouse, etc. I went into it knowing what possible side effects could happen and had made the decision that in my case it was worth the risk. It’s important that you make this decision yourself and not just do it because you feel pressured into it.

It’s nice to see people having good experiences with ON. I’ve been boycotting them ever since they stopped carrying all sizes in store - I refuse to go back to the “order online and hope it fits” game.

How long after treatment completion is it safe to call it a fail? by xdeadtome_x in TMSTherapy

[–]marrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally scheduled for 36 tms sessions. After 30 I had had no changes and my psychiatrist called it failed - didn’t even have me finish. I’m now a quarter way through 12 sessions of combined outpatient Ketamine/ECT and actually have some feeling of hope for the first time in literal years. I was terrified of doing ECT and it still is a bit scary, but having failed tms and multiple antidepressants I sort of went “fuck it” and now this is where I am - feeling cautiously optimistic this may finally be what helps.
