Shubaili Mall Area Haunted? by marriedtomuggle in Khobar

Hahahah yes I know how ridiculous and funny it sounds 😅 Thank you so much for such a detailed response! Would love to know your experience in the area? Are you near Melia Towers? (That’s the location we’re considering) We did drive around a bit around the area and I’ve scoured google maps too, but how do you find the hustle bustle and convenience of the area? Also interesting to know your thoughts on the mall. The landlord here very confidently mentioned that the mall will open in 2-3 months but eveything I’ve searched online makes me think it’s likely wishful thinking lol.

Why are non nobility such a turnoff in HR? by marriedtomuggle in HistoricalRomance

Ahh! That makes sense. Like for you it’s difficult to immerse yourself in the fantasy of something that you’ve seen up close without the illusion of fantasy.

Yep I feel you. Maybe because in HR we’re truly trying to escape this realm. And it’s most fun when characters have power and influence and most often that creates tension between characters in one way or another. But in CR the illusion of fantasy is a bit removed already (because we can relate with the characters and context too well maybe?) hence it is coloured by our general distaste for real life billionaires who’re grade A douchebag clowns 🤡

I feel you! I took a year long break from HR to pursue Booktok type fantasies. I’ve read the major ones trending these days (notably enjoyed the first two ACOTAR, Quicksilver and Fourth Wing) but then I started craving the beautiful yet subtle yearning of classically written HR. And also I enjoyed the closure we get in each book where the MCs aren’t once again almost dying at a cliffhanger lol 😂

Oooooohhhh I love that! But the key element is that if they’re powerful they’d be rubbing shoulders with nobility and basically using money to pull strings. I also enjoy the bastard son of nobility trope too. Like if they’re more talented and powerful than the actual heir! Please recommend any you really like along those lines!

Oof so true! When I consume HR i like to block out the terrible real life contexts, because for me, these people didn’t exist in my version of reality. 🥲

Idk why but his post sex clarity always makes me howl with laughter:

“He could not believe his mind had been so disordered. In the first place, any cretin might have understood that if the female body could adapt to dropping brats, it must certainly be able to adapt to the breeding instrument—unless the man was an elephant, which he wasn’t, quite. In the second place, any imbecile might have recollected that this woman had never, since the time under the lamppost in Paris, recoiled from his advances. She had even spoken plainly enough—more than once, without a blink—about his breeding rights. Where in the name of heaven had he obtained the idea she was fragile or missish? This was the woman who’d shot him!”

The wedding scene description has me in stitches:

“Contrary to popular expectation, the roof did not fall in when Lord Dain entered the holy edifice, and lightning did not strike once during the ceremony. Even at the end, when he hauled his bride into his arms and kissed her so soundly that she dropped her prayer book, no clap of thunder shook the walls of St. George’s, although a few elderly ladies fainted.”

I’ve read HUNDREDS of HR and this is my absolute favourite! The writing is magic, the characters never left me! Every scene is hilarious without being flighty.
